LISA Acronym Dictionary

News: The Web Application is here! Please have a look here if you do not want to install the python GUI

Screenshof of the GUI

Welcome to the LISA Acronym Dictionary. I created this out of frustration about the many acronyms used in this project. The screenshot below shows how the GUI looks like on a MacOSX, I don't know how it looks on a different OS, but happy for feedback.

Screenshof of the GUI

To run the GUI you clone this repository and run the acronym_gui.py either outside or inside of Python. For those unfamiliar with Python, that means you type python acronym_gui.py into your terminal in the same folder where the program is located. Depending on your Python installation you might need additional packages in order for it to run. Packages needed to run the GUI:

astropy

You should be able to type your acronym in the input field and hit enter (or use the search button). If you want to add more acronyms to the list edit the LISA_acronyms.csv file (I recommend in Excel), if possible also adding a short description.

If you have another long table of acronyms and you want to merge it with the existing list (recommended method), you can use merge_tables.py [TABLENAME] using a csv table with the fields Acronym, Translation, Description (on MacOS the table needs to be saved as a normal csv and not UTF-8, make sure there are no weird charactes in there).

New Acronyms for GRS

GRS-TME - Gravitattional Reference System - Test Mass Emulator
TME - Test Mass Emulator

Commas within the descriptions are interpreted as separators.

This is likely expected behaviour for a csv file, since, you know, "comma separated values". However, in this case there are only three columns so the subsequent commas after the first two can be safely ignored (at least for now).

Do putting descriptions inside quotes fix this?

GPRM description

Hi,

Progbably the GPRM description is not the right one...
Here a copy past about the GPRM request ๐Ÿ‘
