amsterdam's Issues

NodeSchool Amsterdam 3

@mmalecki @yoshuawuyts how does Sunday, September 28 sound?

So I'm interested in giving shader-school a shot this time round, but I'm open to alternatives too. Any preferences or hesitations? It's a heavy workshop so would either want to do just that or do it in combination with the three.js one, though I haven't tried it yet. Could also hold off until the next month and do planet-proto and stream-adventure.

Also noting here that next time we should have a 5-minute intro for each of the workshops :)

Getting the show back on the road

Hi all,

After a hiatus of almost 16 months, we’re happy to announce that NodeSchool Amsterdam will see some new life. In the last couple of weeks a new team of organizers has started working behind the scenes on planning new events.

Although we’re not ready to disclose the details just yet, we do want to share some of the outlines for NodeSchool Amsterdam with you.

  • Our aim is to organize a NodeSchool event at least once a month, starting with the upcoming event that will take place within the next 6-8 weeks.
  • NodeSchool is about teaching programming skills using JavaScript and Node.js through self-guided and hands-on workshops. Listening to someone talk code might be nice, but we want you to get your hands dirty by doing some coding yourself.
  • We want the events to be interactive, social and, above all, fun. So during the events, we would love for you to get to know and collaborate with others.
  • We encourage people to contribute. NodeSchool is an open-source initiative and we’d like others to get actively involved. So if you want to help out or just share your thoughts, get in touch with us on GitHub Issues, Gitter or Twitter.
  • Above all, NodeSchool welcomes everyone and we expect you to be kind to others and respect our Code of Conduct.

As stated above, we’re currently working very hard to get a new event organized and we’ll announce the date as soon as we can on GitHub Issues and Meetup.com. We’ll also be looking for mentors, so if you’d like to help us out, let us know.

Stay tuned!

Mar - July

goals

Let's discuss what we want with this website.

I for one would like to see some of the following functionality:

  • upcoming events [calendar]
  • past events [calendar]
  • covered topics [workshops]
  • upcoming topics [workshops]
  • mentors [community]
  • students [community] -- we're using Meetup for this now, maybe query their API?
  • signup for the meetup
  • global events? [calendar]
  • explanation of the nodeschool model
  • explanation of what node is, and why it's beneficial

Anything you'd like to see? What'd be a good way to display this stuff?

Beer.js?

Hey lovely Amsterdam Javascripters, when is the next beer.js? Also, I'm doing a FREE event. It's on the subject of reverse engineering with nodejs and radare (there will also be beer) details are here -- https://fullstacklab.eu/.

International Nodeschool Day on May 23rd!

So International Nodeschool Day is coming up! I was thinking of rounding up mentors before deciding on a location and topic. So feel invite anyone that might be interested in helping out! I was thinking of asking the UvA nicely if we could borrow some of their classrooms (maybe get students to come) for the day. Maybe even get ~100 people in, we'd need to have the man power to support it.

Anyway, this is the stuff I think should be done:

  • create this issue
  • round up as many (qualified, skillful and handsome) mentors as possible
  • create a placeholder event on Meetup
  • arrange a location
  • decide on the overarching theme (introductory? specific topic? diverse? poll?)
  • once a location & topic are decided, fill in the rest of the meetup details
  • find sponsors for beer & pizza (essential in covering up any mistakes we make during the day)
  • prepare the nodeschool workshops (it's more fun when you're prepared!)
  • buzz people to come
  • send a reminder a week before the meetup
  • send a reminder a day before the meetup

Let me know if you guys can help out. Thanks!

I probably forgot a shitload of concerts, feel free to add anything you like in the comments so I can add it. Bear in mind the general direction is metal, and not kiddie stuff

NodeSchool at Node.js Interactive

Heya,

We have a room for workshops during Node.js Interactive. We've accepted a couple 1-hour workshops but we still have room for more and were thinking it would be cool to have NodeSchools take over the room during that time.

Thoughts?
