moodle-mod_slideshow's Introduction

Slideshow module

This fork implements comments, reading position saving and video-adding. Developed as part of coursework for an Open-Source Software course.

Authors

Installation

Clone the repository, rename the folder from moodle-mod_slideshow to slideshow. Place it in moodle/mod/ and navigate to your moodle site. It should prompt you to install the plugin.

Usage

Slideshow creation

On your computer:

  • Export a presentation to images (for example OpenOffice's export to HTML).
  • Create a zip file of the folder with images.

In Moodle:

  • Add a "slideshow" activity.
  • Upload the zip file and unzip it.

Slideshow usage

Click on a thumbnail to navigate, click on the image to progress. The reading position is kept for each slideshow. One YouTube or Vimeo video can be added to each slide and positioned by dragging and dropping. Comments can be added to each slideshow.

Users with teacher role and upwards can choose

  • Whether to display captions, titles and edit them
  • Position of thumbnails and captions relative to main image
  • Options for auto-progress of slides in new window
  • Slide maximum dimensions (x and y pixels)
  • Whether to include some javascript to disable right-clicking and remove the "image in new window" link

moodle-mod_slideshow's Issues

STATEMENTS section is not supported any more, please use db/install.php or db/log.php

(NOTE: I've mentioned this on the Moodle.org forums (http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=38935#p852401) but thought I'd add it here to ensure you see it.)

I have an odd error to report, but bear with me...

When I deleted a block I'm developing from our 2.2 installation (which has nothing to do with your slideshow module), I received the following error:

STATEMENTS section is not supported any more, please use db/install.php or db/log.php
line 135 of /lib/xmldb/xmldb_file.php: call to debugging()
line 446 of /lib/adminlib.php: call to xmldb_file->loadXMLStructure()
line 404 of /lib/adminlib.php: call to get_used_table_names()
line 294 of /lib/adminlib.php: call to drop_plugin_tables()
line 101 of /admin/blocks.php: call to uninstall_plugin()

I thought it was to do with my development, but no such statement existed. Through trial and error I found it is caused by the section in your slideshow module's db/install.xml file.

It's not a critical error, and only happens when I delete a plugin, not install one, so it's not high priority.

Cheers.
