The suggestion is to add support to assigning a hotkey to opening the Edit Task dialog.
Together with #10 this would allow for the main user flow of this extention to be minimal effort for keyboard centric users:
To change the Thing, from anywhere, you'd only need to type <hotkey>
<Text for new Thing>
[Enter]
Also, thanks for a great simple add-on
Hi @dantehemerson โ so recently @PRATAP-KUMAR and I were inspired to do a "One Thing" app for GNOME and must have missed yours, possibly because it is not compatible with GNOME 42.
Do you have any plans on making it compatible?
We have started working on an extension compatible with 42 at https://github.com/one-thing-gnome/one-thing, we are also planning further details like making the One Thing visible on the lock screen.
What do you think about collaborating, do you think that makes sense? Would probably be better than having two apps which do exactly the same in the GNOME extensions store. :D
My suggestion is that when the "Edit task" dialog is opened, the text would be selected by default.
This would allow the user to immediately start typing a new "thing" and hit Enter to set it, without the need to delete delete the existing text.
It shouldn't prevent the user from clicking on any other UI element if that was his intent.

Just updated to Fedora 38 with Gnome 44 and the extension stopped working.
This is such a ONE-derful extension, thank you!
I am using it daily, and have connected it to my workflow. Here is how I set the value in the menu bar from the command line:
dconf write /org/gnome/shell/extensions/one-thing/thing-value "'My todo'"
I'm using it in Wayland to copy the clipboard to One Thing like so:
dconf write /org/gnome/shell/extensions/one-thing/thing-value "'$(wl-paste|sed "s/'/\\\'/g")'"
Perhaps others can benefit from this also. Thanks!
Can this please be updated for gnome shell 46?
