open-smartwatch-gps's Issues

Vibration

Hello,

Has anyone looked into adding vibration? I know any motor would add size to what is already a good sized watched, but if you don't have vibration, getting notifications on your watch won't help.

I think that a small transistor could be added to the circuit board, hooked up to an open GPIO (assuming there is one), and used to control vibration through PWM. We could add an osw_vibration library to be included in apps. I imagine the call would be really simple, like doVibration(intensity, duration); Maybe it could even go into osw_ui_util.cpp (I know it's not a graphical UI element, but it is a UI element since it's interacting with the user:) ).

Regarding hardware upgrades, such as type-c interface

Is this project still being updated? I see that the hardware version is a long time ago. I want to reproduce a finished product, but the hardware feels a bit old, so I would like to ask if there is a timeline for this hardware update.

Proposal: heart rate monitor

Hello,
as of title I would like to make a proposal: have you thought about adding an heart rate monitor? It would be useful to use the smartwatch for sports.
Thank you

Need better bom for part ordering

Ibom is good for general part information and part placement but not good for ordering parts from major vendors like mouser, dogikey or LCSC. Suggest adding support for Octopart bom.

how to edit pcb

I use fusion360. how to open gerber file and edit. if you know solution please help me :)

Flashlight app?

I don't know how to code this and it goes against all the power saving efforts for such wearable. However, turning on all pixels white at low intensity might be a useful light source.
IIRC, there is a fixed pull-up for the backlight, so adding a LED controller, or via PWM would provide a settable intensity.

Future dev

Hi @uvwxy

It looks like it's been awhile since this project has been updated. I started looking at building one of these when I noticed some parts have gone obsolete.

Would it be helpful if I fork this project and update the board to replace obsolete parts and potentially solve some of the other issues/

Compass app or service to add to GPS maps

Why have a compass?

Some people would like to go hiking, camping or generally go outdoors and far from cities and urban areas, having a compass and a map might help with exploration and other situations that might arise, plus it's usually a cool concept to have on a smartwatch.

The app:

Similar to the screenshots below, having an application that displays a compass that it also updates in real time is the main idea for the app.

## The service or extension to GPS maps:
Another option is to include an optional feature for the GPS maps to display a compass in the corner that also rotates in real time. This idea was proposed by Morthersmort#8456 on Discord

Compass app in other smart watches:

  • Casio Outdoor:

  • N10B MTK2501:

  • Green Hell smartWatch:

Issues for implementing this idea:

I originally though that GPS modules were able to calculate this information out of the box but as Morthersmort#8456 pointed out on discord, this is usually done with a hardware that has a 3 axis magnetometer. Since having this might require a hardware modification for the GPS watch, this idea might not be feasible at the moment.
