I do know that SKSE for Skyrim has a similar setup where they are in the store as a "mod" and the download just slaps down the SKSE executables into the Skyrim folder...maybe you could request some kind of "SteamVR" mod page in a similar light and have that distribute the driver.

Steamvr just needs to be made aware of non vive hardware. IMO steam-osvr drivers should be installed when steamvr is installed when non vive hardware is connected but that hardware is supported by openvr and therefor osvr. Same should be the case for all osvr software. Every app ideally should install the osvr runtime, render manager and osvr plug ins it needs according to detected hardware or was built for at install time.

Having to play about with osvr server configs, primary displays, display orientation and drivers to get each and every app working simply should not be needed.

Can the steamWorks support channels point you in the right direction?.

Seeing a one click solution to starting steamvr apps when using any hardware supported by the steamvr-osvr drivers would be awesome. The http://store.steampowered.com/app/491380/SteamVR_Driver_for_Razer_Hydra/ are probably an example of what we really want for steamvr-osvr drivers and their associated dependencies.
