Cast shadows

Let's get rid of light bleed and improve the visual quality of the game by introducing properly cast shadows, probably using lightmaps and/or GI.

Improve player movement

  • Jumping in general, inc. responsiveness of the bind
  • Suggestion to let player jump back briefly after sliding off a platform
  • Inertia, speed, etc.

Game stutters at the start of a level

Particularly level 2 causes a massive stutter about half a second into playing it. Only the first time from launching the game, though; if player comes back to the level later, there is no stutter. I suspect this has something to do with loading particles, the shader, or some other stuff.

Model Rework

  • Rework all models to match meter x meter x meter grid constraints
  • Create UV's for all models
  • (Optional) Map textures onto UV's for all models
  • Add more models/Different themed models?
  • Add backdrop models?

Level improvements

  • The levels might be a little bit long for getting through without checkpoints
  • Start of level 1
    • The pit might be a bit too large. We could get the point across using a smaller pile of bodies, or maybe it could instead be a series of spikes to start with or something. TBD.
  • Level 3
    • At some point, create an actual level

Tweak levels

  • Final section of level 1
    • Prevent finishing level when falling to your death
    • Make it harder to block your path
  • Level 3
    • Add a barrier to prevent falling

Pressing Esc causes crash

Pressinc Esg occasionally causes crash, particularly after the prompt to do so
crash occurs when
-the player is sent to the main menu
or
-the player presses play after being sent to main menu

Improve dialogue system

  • Queue system for dialogue lines so they don't end up fighting each other or disappearing too quickly
  • Keybind to skip dialogue

Improve the writing

  • Adjust some dialogues to more realistic expectations of what players do
  • Maybe don't imply the player wants to immediately get out of the environment right at the start
  • "Tetris move"

Improve the animation

  • Figure out blender armatures --> godot
  • Create running cycle animation
  • Create jumping animation
  • Figure out animation blending
