In order to get the correct color when calling setPixelColor(), I had to change the initialization to:
Adafruit_DotStar leds = Adafruit_DotStar(TOTAL_LED, PIN_LED_DATA, PIN_LED_CLOCK, DOTSTAR_BGR);

@Cheong2K are you able to confirm if that's needed?

Since there are 25 LEDs could you create an advent calendar that adds one LED per day? Maybe have them build up the sides so the very top is Xmas day. Have the current day blink?

int playLED() fails to return a value and starting with 2.0.0 this causes a SOS panic crash.

Adding return strtol(color, NULL, 0); at the bottom of this function should do the trick

Got one of the xenon to photon pin adapters and hooked it up to the tree - had to use this version of dotstar which works great, but the web ui doesn't support anything other than the core/photon/electron and fails on detection. The button works though.. :-P

How about one that is all green and then a single random led twinkles white then goes back to green to provide an old school simple look.
