decisive's Issues

Design To-Do List

HTML/CSS Design Tasks

Pick an item, make a pull request, put the issue # of your pull request by the item, repeat. :-)

  • #12 Create logo / pick "logo" font, add logo box to sidebar.
  • #9 Add "Grids" list to sidebar.
  • #7 Add (Not) Urgent/(Not) Important headings outside of grid.
  • #9 Add headings to quadrants.
  • #9 Add item lists to quadrants.
    • Item checkbox + text
    • "Remove Item" button
  • #9 Calendar icon.
  • #9 Add styles for completed tasks.
  • #14 Add either (1) "New Item" button OR "New Item" box.
    • The "New Item" box would replace the "New Item" button. Basically, when you hover over empty space in a quadrant, a space for a new list item would appear under the bottom one. Maybe the checkbox would appear, with text that says "click to add item" where the text would go. When you click, a text input would appear.
  • #13 Modify Priority and Grid headings to more closely match prototype 2

Advanced Features Brainstorm

(For down the road.)

  1. Navigating the app completely with a keyboard.
  2. Splitting tasks into sub tasks.
  3. Separate 1-column view. (Do Now tasks on top)

Create initial HTML page layout for Eisenhower Matrix

First, let's come up with a minimalist static HTML/CSS layout that represents an Eisenhower matrix. Let's keep the HTML and CSS as simple as possible at this point. We'll work out the flowery stuff later.

Different implementations lay out the columns differently. I like this kind of layout:

Feature Brainstorm

This is an issue for discussion potential features / details about the app.

Eisenhower App

This app (http://eisenhower.me/) is pretty similar to what I want to make, but (1) it's for iPhone primarily and (2) the web version is kind of lacking. (It was made primarily for mobile.)

My vision is to make Decisive a more feature-complete desktop version.

As a "starting point", check out the desktop/web version at http://www.eisenhower.me/todos. (You'll need to create an account, but the web version is free.)

Definite Features

  1. Add items to 1 of 4 to-do lists
  2. Check off items (Do they go away immediately? In a given time? Or is there a "clear" button?)
  3. Dragging tasks between quadrants
  4. Moving tasks higher / lower within list on a quadrant
  5. UI should be so obvious there's no "explanation" pop ups needed.

Potential Features to Discuss

  1. No "logging in" at first -- it's just ready to use and saves to your local computer.
  2. Simple -- the system knows nothing about deadlines. Just your 4 lists.
  3. "Focus mode" like the Eisenhower mobile app?
  4. For tasks in "schedule" list, hook into calendar? (This is what Eisenhower does)
    • Eisenhower takes the method really literally. In it, the way that you deal with a task in the "Important, Not Urgent" quadrant is by adding it to your calendar. But some people aren't very calendar driven, so I wonder if it would work to allow the user to use this quadrant as a "holding area" for tasks that will eventually become more urgent.
  5. For tasks in "delegation" list, send emails? (This is what Eisenhower does)
  6. Multiple grids (work, home, etc)
  7. "Suggestions" -- intelligently determine what the user needs to do next. (First highlight "do now"s, then highlight things that need planned and delegated.) We'd need a way to hide these.

Mobile Features

(If and when we make a mobile version.)

  1. Show 1 to-do list at a time.

Remove Grid Button

We need a way to delete a grid. Probably want to fire a confirmation alert, like "Are you sure you want to delete this?"

I'm okay with making the button an ugly letter X like the delete task buttons for now. :-)
