I follow the steps for copying the necessary files to the plugin directory:

$ cp -r pylint pylint.gedit-plugin $HOME/.gnome2/gedit/plugins

But the plugin does not appear in the list of plugins when I restart gedit.

This appears to be due to dashes in the temporary file's name.

Without the bottom panel, there's no indication that the plugin did anything.
