picardbarcodescanner's Introduction

Picard Barcode Scanner

GitHub release (latest by date) F-Droid PlayStore Downloads

Description

Picard Barcode Scanner helps you to tag your physical releases with MusicBrainz Picard. It allows you to scan the barcode of e.g. a CD and have the corresponding metadata from MusicBrainz automatically loaded into Picard on your desktop.

This is especially useful if you have your physical music collection already digitalized and want to tag the files using the correct album.

Requirements

  • Picard 1.0 or higher
  • Android 7.0 or higher

Installation

You can install the Picard Barcode Scanner from the Google Play Store or F-Droid.

You can also manually download and install the APK file from the release page.

Usage

  1. Connect both your computer and your phone to the same WiFi network.

  2. Start MusicBrainz Picard (version 1.0 or higher).

  3. In Picard open Options > Advanced > Network and enable "Browser Integration" and disable "Listen only on localhost". It is recommended to leave the port on the default 8000.

  4. Start Picard Barcode Scanner on your phone.

  5. On the first start the app will ask you for the IP address and port number Picard is listening on. Just enter the IP or network name of your computer. For the port the default 8000 should usually be ok. In case you have multiple instances of Picard running on your computer it might be 8001 or higher. You can see the port Picard is listening on in the lower right of the Picard main window, where it will be displayed with e.g. "Listening on port 8000".

  6. Use the app to scan the barcode of a music album. If the album is in the MusicBrainz database and your Picard connection settings are correct the album data will automatically be loaded into Picard.

  7. Tag your files in Picard with the loaded album as explained in the Picard documentation.

Alternatives

The official MusicBrainz for Android app now also includes the ability to send found releases to Picard. See Loading releases with MusicBrainz for Android in the Picard documentation.

picardbarcodescanner's Issues

Remember scanned barcodes, allow delayed transmission

User suggestion from Play Store comment:

A nice feature would be to have an option to store the scanned barcode numbers for "delayed transmission" to pc. - As it is now, the app device, the cd's, and the pc have to all be in the same location. Not too convenient if cd's are in one room and pc is in another. Just a suggestion.

Probably in general a scanning history, and an offline mode that just gathers barcodes for later mass submission.

Scan barcode button stays inactive

To reproduce:

  • Start the app and press scan barcode button
  • Scan a barcode
  • From the result view start the barcode scanner again
  • Do not scan a barcode but exit from the activity with the back button

Result: The "Scan barcode" button is inactive

Layout problem in "SCAN BARCODE" page and "About" page

Describe the bug

Dear developer!
In the process of using, I found a bug in layout / display. As shown in the figure below, some texts are blocked and some texts overlap with each other. This may be an adaptation problem. I suspect it is because display and font size are set to large (mainly due to display size).
Because of some problems with my eyesight, I often use the largest font and display.

App version is 1.5, my mobile phone is Google Pixel 2, and the screen resolution setting is 1920* 1080. And my font size and display size are the largest ! ! ! Also, my Android system version is 10.0.
The above is a description of the problem. The overall experience of the software is good. You can see that the design is very attentive. Thank you very much for the efforts of the developers all the time. I hope to receive a reply.

Expected behavior

I hope that I can see all of the texts after "Please check the...", in this circumstance, they seem to be blocked.

And in the about page, "version 1.5" overlapped with "Piccard Barcode Scanner". I reckon those two parts should be separated from each other.

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1.use the largest font and display
2.click "SCAN BARCODE"
3.see error
