# Raspberry Pi Pico Plant Humidity Monitoring

This project aims to create a Raspberry Pi Pico-based solution for monitoring the humidity levels in plants and sending the data wirelessly to a Flask server. The project consists of two main components: an API server built with Flask and the code for the Raspberry Pi Pico.

## See it working

The project has been deployed to fly, so you could see live values at:

[latest](https://monstera.fly.dev/)
[historic](https://monstera.fly.dev/historic)

## Folder Structure

The project follows a 2-folder structure:

- `/api`: Contains the Flask server code responsible for receiving and storing the humidity metrics from the Raspberry Pi Pico.
- `/pico`: Contains the code for the Raspberry Pi Pico that reads humidity values from the sensor and sends them to the Flask server.

## Getting Started

To set up the project, follow these steps:

### API Setup

1. Navigate to the `/api` directory: `cd api`
2. Install the required Python packages: `pip install -r requirements.txt`
3. Start the gunicorn server (flask prod server): `gunicorn app:app`

The Flask server will start running on `http://localhost:8000` and will be ready to receive humidity metrics from the Raspberry Pi Pico.

### Raspberry Pi Pico Setup

To get started with the installation of the firmware please follow [this guide](https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/raspberry-pi-pico-setup)

1. Connect the humidity sensor to the Raspberry Pi Pico according to the wiring instructions provided.
2. Copy the code from the `/pico` directory to your Raspberry Pi Pico board.
3. Adjust the code if necessary to match the pin configuration and sensor type you are using.
4. Power up the Raspberry Pi Pico.

The Raspberry Pi Pico will start reading the humidity values from the sensor and send them wirelessly to the Flask server.
