openstreetbrowser-categories-main's Issues

Cemeteries, grave yards, graves, tombs, ...

Currently, cemeteries and grave yards are included in the "Religion" category (sub category of "Culture and Religion"). Graves are not included in any category.

I'm not very happy about this, because as non-religious people are buried too, cemeteries and graves are not necessarily religious.

So, I'd propose to remove cemeteries and grave yards from Religion unless they are religious.

Additionally, I'd create a new category "Cemeteries" (under "Culture and Religion") which includes cemeteries (regardless whether they are religious or not), grave yards, tombs, and (from a lower zoom level) graves.

Any thoughts on this?

Pedestrian footways - some areas are missing

The new feature "pedestrian footways" is brilliant and also is a great aid to improve the map.

Cool that it also covers areas, however I found that a part of the market place in Würzburg is not shown:
Link: (https://www.openstreetbrowser.org/#map=18/49.79449/9.92908&basemap=osm-mapnik&categories=footways)
Observed: the market area in the center is not highlighted (the area around the "Marktbrunnen")

The issue is that this area is a multipolygon (https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/3865559), and therefore has no "area=yes" tag, because it is implied (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relation:multipolygon).

route=foot into 'Outdoor activities' category

Already "Outdoor activities" main category has 3 subcategories with object search: "Paddling", "Climbing" &
"Mountain bike routes". Would be great - in the event of numerous local (at the city level) of pedestrians/walking routes - to include the subcategory "Walking routes" searching for routes tagged route=foot.
Thanks in advance!

Details in the pedestrian crossing

Since there's a lot of deal with pedestrian mobility and accessibility, let's add a few details:

  • Type:
    • Marked and no traffic signals: crossing=marked or crossing=uncontrolled;
    • Marked and with traffic signals: crossing=traffic_signals;
    • Unmarked: crossing=unmarked.
  • How is it equipped (only show if explicitly tagged to avoid displaying "none" or "unknown"):
    • Is it button operated: button_operated=yes|no;
    • Has tactile paving: tactile_paving=yes|no;
    • Has a crossing island: crossing:island=yes|no;
    • Kerb... it's seems a bit inconsistent on the wiki.

Examples:

Artwork icon

Hi,
Just discovered OpenStreetBrowser via weeklyOSM ... great project!
I also very much like the idea of using the standardised 😁 emoji as icons.
The sleeping accomodation icon for an artwork (here) seems a little counter-intuitive however ... 🎨 perhaps?

Cheers

Add support for Implicit maxspeed values

implicit maxspeed=<countrycode>:<zone type> It is common in some local communities, notably Romania and Russia, to use this tag for implicit speedlimits as well. It is used in Russia for areas where the speed limit is indicated on the street by use of a symbol or icon rather than a number. The format includes a country code followed by a ':' and a zone identifier (For example 'RO:urban'). This non-numeric notation is used to avoid the correction of an entire country map due to legislation changes regarding maximum speed.

Table of values: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:maxspeed#Implicit_maxspeed_values

Categories for office tags

Until yesterday OpenStreetBrowser completely ignored the "office" key. Now I created an "Offices" category (under "Services"), but I'm not sure about it's usefulness. It would be great to get some input from the community on this.

Many of the tags should actually be included in other categories and I'm not sure what to do with the rest. Maybe you (or others) have some thoughts on this?

Of course we can include the tags in the others and have an additional "office" category anyway.

This are the top 60 values (according to https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/office#values) of the 'office' key:

value suiting category
government Services -> Public
company ?
yes ?
estate_agent ?
insurance ? maybe Services -> Financial

I also have thoughts about "office=yes" - currently it shows "yes" as description for map features of this type. I would like to write "unknown" (resp. its translation) instead. What do you think about that?

create an 'OSM quality' category

FACT : OpenStreetBrowser let see a lot of features and helps to see the coverage of objects added in OpenStreetMap, it's ovever difficult to improve the quality of these object for some tags.

IDEA : let create some displaying for tags that are really usefull and may show how OSMquality is relevance.
Some first queries would be welcome such as :

  • capacity : usefull to see where restaurant, cinema, theatre, + bicyle or car parking are not filled
  • material : usefull to see how are done benches
  • colour : usefull to see what are the colors of benches and street lamp in the same area
  • wikipedia : find where some monuments, touristic places have been linked

Re-structure Leisure category

I think that there are too many and too diverse map features in the leisure category. I think, it's rather useless. I would like to split it into several sub-categories. I would like to have your input (@Cybereric @IgorEliezer @severinmenard @debyos @waldyrious and others who are interested) on this.

On this page, I listed the most common values and where (beside the current 'leisure' category) they are being queried right now (bold). Feel free to make suggestions in the "category" column, to which sub-categories you would add them to (and how to name them). You do have edit rights in the wiki, don't you?

Zoom levels too low

Thanks!
BTW I noticed the minimum zoom level to be way too low to remain useful if you apply (such) filters. That's probably not only applicable to bicycle amenities but pretty much everything where you have set minimum zoom levels.

create a disabled category

It would be welcome to create a disabled category that would stimulate contributions for mappers that are wishing to improve data for people that are in wheelchair, blind, deaf, cognitive disability.

Charging_Station should consider motorcar or bicycle

You can add bicycle or car facitilies to the OpenStreetBrowser. The browser will show you the Charging_Stations.
Unlikely he ignore the attributes motorcar=yes/no or bicycle=yes/no. You will see all motorcar charging_stations if you view facilities for bicycles

Add Sidewalk query

Hello,

There's a lot of concern about how cities are suitable for pedestrians, specially children, elderly and people with mobility restrictions (wheelchair).

I think OSB could have a "Sidewalk" query showing:

  • Sidewalk: yes, both, none, left, right. (currently rendered in "Test/Lanes")
  • Surface
  • Width
  • Kerb

(relevant issue: #51 )

Display adresses with "contact:" keys.

In France and Germany, keys with "contact:" prefixe tend to be more common (see TagInfo: https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/?key=contact%3Ahousenumber#map) in order to add adresses on POI's without create duplicates with "addr:". An example: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/8855169707.

Adresses are structured like this:
contact:housenumber
contact:street
contact:postcode
contact:city

It would be a good idea to display them in POI's poped boxes just as it is already the case with "addr:" tags.

Add "Protected Areas"

Suggestion: I'd add "Protected Areas" under "Places" main category.

Wiki: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:boundary%3Dprotected_area

Since there are many types, we could start with:

  • "Natural protected areas": protect_class=1 to 6 (natural park and protected land of all sorts)
  • "Cultural/historic sites": protect_class=22 (cultural heritage) (already covered by Culture->Historic), 24 (aboriginal) and 26 (ancient site).
  • Bonus "Low Emission Zone" (this could go under "Transportation")

Deprecate vending=parcel_pickup

Hi,
A new tag just has been approved: amenity=parcel_locker and describes a parcel locker.
It replaces previously used (and now deprecated) amenity=vending_machine + vending=parcel_pickup

I propose to:

  • Stop proposing the preset amenity=vending_machine + vending=parcel_pickup
  • If applicable, stop proposing the preset amenity=vending_machine + vending=parcel_pickup;parcel_mail_in
  • Create a new dedicated preset for amenity=parcel_locker

Thanks

PS: deprecation follow-up (including similar requests to other tools) is available on this wiki page: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:vending%3Dparcel_pickup#Deprecation_follow-up
