# Malloc Lab
# Handout files for students
######################################################################

***********
Main Files:
***********

mmImplicit.{c,h}
This file contains a partial implementation of malloc routines
using implicit lists. You will complete this implementation.

implicitTester.c
This code contains test code for the implicit lists implementation.
You need to modify this file to provide good tests for next fit,
    first fit, and best fit.

mmExplicit.{c,h}
This file contains a partial implementation of malloc routines
using explicit lists. You will complete this implementation.

explicitTester.c
This file is provided so that you can use it for testing of your
explicit lists implementation. It won't be graded.

Makefile

**********************************
Other support files for the driver
You don't modify these.
**********************************

Makefile Builds the drivers: explicit and implicit
driver.c The malloc driver that tests your mmImplicit and mmExplicit files
config.h Configures the malloc lab driver
fsecs.{c,h} Wrapper function for the different timer packages
clock.{c,h} Routines for accessing the Pentium and Alpha cycle counters
fcyc.{c,h} Timer functions based on cycle counters
ftimer.{c,h} Timer functions based on interval timers and gettimeofday()
memlib.{c,h} Models the heap and sbrk function
makelink.sh Adds a link from your directory to the traces directory

****************************************
Building and running the drivers/testers
****************************************
To build the testers and drivers, type "make" to the shell.

To run the explicitTester type:
unix> ./explicitTester
or
unix> ./explicitTester -w first

To run the implicitTester type:
unix> ./implicitTester
or
unix> ./implicitTester -w first

To run the explicit driver that thoroughly tests your implementation: type
unix> ./explicit

To run the implicit driver that thoroughly tests your implementation: type
unix> ./implicit

Other options are available. You can see these by typing:
unix> ./implicit -h
