presentations's Introduction

Primer Presentation System

Current version: v2020

Documentation

Our documentation site currently lives at https://primer.style/presentations/. You'll be able to find the information listed in this README as well as detailed docs for presentation guidelines, presentation formats, and assets.

Installation

Keynote

1. Installing the theme file

To install any of the Keynote themes, simply download the theme you'd like to use and double-click on the Keynote theme file (.kth). This will open Keynote with the dialog box that looks like this: Add theme dialog box.

Click Add to Theme Chooser. The theme will now be available in the My Themes tab when you create a new presentation.

2. From a pre-existing presentation

To install the theme from a pre-existing presentation, use the Keynote template file, simply download the file and double-click the Keynote file (.key) to open.

presentations's Issues

Presentation outreach

With the first iteration of the presentation system finished and tested, the next step is to share the deck. This issue is to track the next steps for adoption of the presentation deck.

Next Steps

  • Write docs
  • Create versioning system and version current deck
  • Create team post
  • Create new site with blueprints (optional?]

Standardize dropshadow

What

There has been a recurring pattern of differing drop shadow use in presentations for product screenshots.

We need to create a standard template that makes it easier for anyone to update screenshots in their presentation without having to worry about the styling.

Keynote has missing fonts

What

Several Hubbers have mentioned that the keynote theme requires them to replace missing fonts.

Who

@ashygee

Action Items

  • Audit master slides and see which fonts are still being included
  • Remove all instances of any font other than Helvetica Neue and Menlo
  • Release

4-box layout for slides

A popular slide format is to divide the slide into four quadrants. This should accompany content such as data metrics and grouping key ideas with brief descriptions. I will be adding this to the current template in Figma, Keynote, and Google Slides.

Examples from previous all hands:

Moving changelog

Should we move the changelog (currently called versioning) to the About section? My thinking is that the term "changelog" is more clear, and that it probably doesn't need its own section. Thoughts, @ashygee?

Add box for emphasis to index page

Current Status

Currently the callout for the templates is just one line of text.

I think we could highlight the templates in a way similar to primer.style/css

[bug] Broken search in nav

Problem

The search results in the nav are 404ing. See gif below:

broken-search

Steps to produce

Type a search item and click on the result.

PowerPoint theme

Since the initial release of the presentation design system many folks have asked about a companion PowerPoint theme.

To do

  • Convert keynote to ppt
  • Cross reference
  • Release

Google Slide Template out of date (2019)

When creating a new google slide presentation from the google templates, the title slide defaults to 2019.

image

Suggested fix ... update to 2020 :) or to auto-text for current year yyyy

Add troubleshooting for google slides

In the documentation we need to add a small troubleshooting section for those who don't see the template gallery in their google slides home view.

Primer themed deck

Objective

Coming off of the internal technology deck v1, this issue is to document the initial design process for a presentation deck based on the Primer brand

Fix missing fonts error in Keynote template

Problem

When you open the Keynote file, you get prompted with a message to replace missing fonts:

Screen Shot 2021-07-28 at 1 59 49 PM

Solution

In theory if I click on Cancel the fonts will work, as it's using systems fonts, but we should fix the template so that this error message doesn't appear.

Convert deck design to Google Slides

This first pass will be to just convert the current version of the presentation template from Figma (started in #2 ) to work within Google Slides. Future versions will stem from this initial template.
