Refactor: Separate UI from behavior?

Hi, I'm Karl (Laptop) from scuttlebutt; this is the github user I try to use for fun stuff.

Usually when I make an organized javascript project, I try to not have the modules have any clue what the html element id's are. In this project, they're hardcoded.

I don't know what kind of norms we're looking for in this codebase, but I thought maybe it could be good to factor the css stuff out of the javascript modules, so that if the .html file is changed fewer files need to be updated, and so the modules can move towards being re-used in other environments. Any thoughts?
