I think it's because you're trying to use this library with a very old version of React Native. Some possible solutions for you:
- If you can upgrade, please do and see if the error still happens.
- If you can't upgrade, try using the built in
NetInfo
module instead of this one. You will be missing out on some improvements, but it's still largely the same. - If you can't upgrade and really want to use this module, you might need to either update your Babel config to fix the syntax error (I'm not sure on the exact steps required for this) or upgrade your JavascriptCore dependency.
I'm going to close this for now as it's likely an issue with your setup rather than the library itself. Let me know if you upgrade and are still having issues.

Instead of running react-native start
have a script in your package.json like this

"scripts":{
"start": "react-native start"
}
...
}
and then yarn start
This worked for me.

I have no idea why that would fix your issue and I'm a bit doubtful that it was the cause of the issue. Either way, glad you got it fixed.
