Is there any specific reason this was developed as a Theia plugin vs. a Visual Studio Code extension? As an extension it could help solve issues with other implementations of Theia (i.e. Gitpod) which don't easily support Theia plugin architecture in the end-user space.

When the plugin starts up it calls outputChannel.show() which causes the output panel of theia to show (even if you close it on the theia client when app is started.)

On seeing the code I couldn't figure out the need for opening it on start.

Could you share more info on as to why it was required and If it is something that can be removed.

More Context:

We use the above plugin in our product and after hiding the output panel on client there have been instances where the plugin causes the output panel to open again but since the panel is empty (until you do a build using the command registered in this plugin) it causes confusion and is not so good UX from the user's point of view.

Let me know if this is something that makes sense.
