I was thinking a very useful feature would be something like the old Google Finance news overlays...where letters would overlay onto the chart, and it would give context as to perhaps why data trended up or down that day.

Loosely recreating that specific feature is something I can do, but what I am less familiar with are the new APIs for news. It used to be super easy...just source from the RSS feed, but now that has its own challenges. First, if you query the feed too many times, most news sites will treat you as a bot and traffic limit you (or block altogether). Second, if you try to fetch the RSS feed from the client, most websites have the CORS policy in place to block the requests.

Some google results have shown newsapi.org, but that will also limit the number of requests per day. Does anyone know of a free, reliable, and unbiased source of news on Covid?

I was sort of hoping that after the user selects the state and the region, the news feed for the specific region will be shown...super quickly. I think it could be more helpful than having to search repeatedly.
