Garry's Mod Lua Main Menu

A Lua powered ( No HTML ) main menu for Garry's Mod. It is meant for those who do not have main menu in Garry's Mod by default. Note that this is a personal project, and it is not going to be included into Garry's Mod. It does not have some features that I don't use. Some other features that are not part of the standard menu might be added in the future.

Missing/Broken Features

Server browser - This menu uses the default Source Engine server browser
Limited Demos and Saves functionality - No workshop, sorting or filtering
Good looks
You can't browse through new/top rated/ect addons in main menu. You should use the Open Workshop button anyway.

New/Fixed Features

I think it's faster then the default one

More functionality for New Game and Addons menus

Installing

To install this, download the ZIP and extract contents of gmod-lua-menu-master folder ( folders lua and materials ) to your SteamApps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/ folder.

Uninstalling

To uninstall this, open SteamApps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/lua/menu/menu.lua and follow instructions inside. Alternatively, you can simply verify game cache integrity of Garry's Mod and the custom menu will be gone.

Saves & Dupes not showing

In the spawnmenu, the saves and dupes are not showing at all. Nothing in console

Cannot select map without going into develpoer mode.

Fantastic patch, really fixed up gmod, and I like the aesthetic of it.
However, it only works if I switch to the developer version.
Otherwise, I cannot select maps.
running: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS w/ Common Desktop Environment (although that should not be a problem here), with an Intel Ironlake mobile G.P.U. Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad x201.

Can't start Garry's Mod

I can't start Garry's Mod. Im executing the game from a Monterey Macbook Air with m1 chipset and to start it i changed to x64 bits version and executed it with -nochromium and when i try to execute the game the game loads but instead of getting me to the menu i get a blue screen.

Crashes upon loading map

Delete this, nothing to do with the menu, it's all Chromium's fault.

doent work

i follow the instructions and it just gets stuck on the loading screen

Permanent blue screen on mac

I know that this might get tagged as a copy of #26 but the solution given to that user hasn’t worked for me for some reason.
I know it is these files causing the problem because the game opened fine before installing them I just didn’t have any menu ui but I got a permanent blue screen after installing them

Any solution is helpful but I’d prefer one that works

The menu isn't appearing

When I follow the instructions that were posted the menu isn't working for me. I'm on the latest version of Macos.

Blue screen on MacOS Monterey

After coming from the same issue everybody else did, I am also running into the problem where only a blue screen appears. Unlike the others, I will post my full console:

Error gamemode icon

New Game menu completely broken.

Clicking a gamemode does nothing, no back button.

MacOS menu still doesn't show

Hey, keeping it simple but even when I add this (I am assuming we replace the folders and not merge them) the menu still doesn't show. Also when I type map gm_construct into the console this comes up.

Dupes not working

im attempting to spawn dupes into the game however even if they are saved in my gmod's folder they won't load in the dupe menu in game

Blue Screen when starting gmod with the lua and materials

I can't start Garry's Mod. Im executing the game from a Monterey Macbook Air with m1 chipset and to start it i changed to x64 bits version and executed it with -nochromium and when i try to execute the game with the non html menu that you uploaded here the game loads but instead of getting me to the non-html menu i get a blue screen.

Mounted games are listed in GAMEMODES section of New Games menu.

Could you clarify instructions?

I'm having trouble understanding your instructions, and I can't get the menu to even work. If you could clarify or make your instructions more detailed, or maybe even create a video that would help me out a ton. I'm on Mac Monterey if that helps at all.

Hi, I can't spawn dupes and load saves

Hi, Im on MacOS Monterey and i had to install this for the game to launch. After i did, i couldn’t spawn dupes or load saves. the saves menu in the spawnmenu is empty, and i have started heavily using dupes because i'm making wiremod creations and saving them because i dont wanna keep making them whenever i want them. Please help.

Addon Preset settings not present

I heavily use the addon presets, but they don't appear to be in the addon menu. neither is the addon search bar function.

When I look in my saves tab (holding q), the save button does not appear.
Same happens for dupes.

Blank screen when entering the menu

Someone recommended this file to me to help me see Gmod's main menu due to to using Monterey. (Only no-chromium launches which makes the menu invisible)

However, even when following your readme and theirs as well, neither worked and I just had a blue screen. With or without this I could use the console but it's not great as I cannot see maps or options.

Stuck on bluescreen

When I open up Garry's I am stuck in this screen forever. I need help because i tried everything I could but it didn't work.

Menu fucks up on game window resize

Unlike the original main menu this one appears unusable after the game window size (or resolution) was changed.

Abnormal Chinese Display

When I choose Chinese as my display language , there are no Chinese characters showing up but some disordered and meaningless English letters to be appeared.

Looking for maps only in gmod directory

if you try to play on maps from source-engine content (GarrysMod/garrysmod/cfg/mount.cfg) lua menu dont find it!

Accent menu opens every time I hold a key down

Whenever I hold any key down, the keyboard accent menu opens in the top left of the screen.
I have the newest version downloaded, and I also just re-installed Garry's Mod. I'm on MacOS Ventura 13.1 fwiw.
Can anyone help me out here? It's super distracting lmao

It's missing, please add it back. I need that really badly.

Engine Error (File Not Found Error)

The message that points this out is "Couldn't include file 'includs/init_menu.lua' (File not found) ()

This isn't a compatibility issue. Is there anything to do you can fix?

When validated, it says 266 items in the custom failed to be validated after the process ended.
(EDIT) NOTE: This is after the Lua Addon was installed.

Blue Screen on MacOS

When I use this, it doesn't fix anything, it just gives me a totally blue screen on startup.

Can't start MP servers

I can't start P2P servers from the New Game menu. Whenever I try it ends up being a SP game

No dupes menu

Exactly what it says on the tin – no dupes.

Using this menu is literally the only way I can use GMOD so I tried to make peace with the lack of saves, but dupes too? IDK if this is a separate issue or if this is also a lack of save menu. Really really hope somehow a miracle happens and we get a save and dupe update.

Can't browse any Dupes or Saves

Saves or Dupes are not displayed. The Saves and Dupes menus are completely blank.
