ruby-ssl-check's Introduction

ruby-ssl-check

This script tries to help you diagnose SSL problems, especially related to certificates or TLS version while connecting to https://rubygems.org.

It can be run by the following:

curl -Lks 'https://git.io/rg-ssl' | ruby

ruby-ssl-check's Issues

warning: constant OpenSSL::SSL::SSLContext::METHODS is deprecated

I am receiving this line when running the script.

$ curl -sL https://git.io/vQhWq | ruby
Here's your Ruby and OpenSSL environment:

Ruby:           2.5.0p0 (2017-12-25 revision 61468) [x86_64-darwin16]
RubyGems:       2.7.4
Bundler:        1.16.0
Compiled with:  OpenSSL 1.0.2n  7 Dec 2017
Loaded version: OpenSSL 1.0.2n  7 Dec 2017
SSL_CERT_FILE:  /usr/local/etc/openssl/cert.pem
SSL_CERT_DIR:   /usr/local/etc/openssl/certs

With that out of the way, let's see if you can connect to rubygems.org...

Bundler connection to rubygems.org: success ✅
RubyGems connection to rubygems.org: success ✅
Ruby net/http connection to rubygems.org: success ✅

Hooray! This Ruby can connect to rubygems.org. You are all set to use Bundler and RubyGems. 👌

I am trying to see if this is something I should worry about?

SSL_CERT_FILE & SSL_CERT_DIR - check for existence?

I know RG has some cert files, so I'm not sure if it uses the standard files.

Regardless, on older Windows Ruby install (<= 2.3), the constants SSL_CERT_FILE & SSL_CERT_DIR will exist, but the files may not exist. See Appveyor Ruby Info

Hence, might a check for that be added to check.rb? I'd do a PR, but you see the output a lot more than I do...

Thanks, Greg

Mac OS Monterey returns -:40: uninitialized constant RUBY_REVISION (NameError)

Hello, I am following the instructions on how to do an automated SSL check, where they recommend running the command curl -Lks 'https://git.io/rg-ssl' | ruby and ask if you see one of two possible outputs: “Your Ruby can’t connect to rubygems.org because you are missing the certificate” or “Your Ruby can’t connect to rubygems.org because your version of OpenSSL is too old”.

On MacOS Monterey, neither of those happen, instead I see this error:

-:40: uninitialized constant RUBY_REVISION (NameError)
