So I configured WebDAV for http and https on my NAS, created a new share called zotero with advanced share permissions enabled (Right click on folder, Properties > Advanced Permissions > Advanced Share Permissions), and tried to connect it to Zotero in Edit > Preferences > Sync > File Syncing. When I connect to the share with http, everything works fine, the WebDAV logs show all the files were uploaded, and I get a message giving the thumbs up that everything worked.

Where I am having issues is configuring it to work with https. I'd like to do this because ideally I'd have my laptop on outside networks still be able to sync files when I am not home. I've copied the cert_override.txt from firefox but I am still getting this error:

192.168.1.209:5006 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates.
An additional root certificate may need to be imported.
The certificate is only valid for synology

Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

Clicking more information takes you here but it is a different issue for WebDAV configuation, which takes you to yet another page about whitelisting the cert.

I copied the contents of ~/.mozilla/firefox/<randomstring>/cert_override.txt to ~/.zotero/zotero/<randomstring>/cert_override.txt as the Overriding Security Certificate Errors in Zotero page tells me, restart Zotero, and get the same error.

I am going to try to figure out if I configure OpenVPN to connect to my server if I even need to enable https for WebDAV, or if http will suffice. I'll update this tread as I learn more
