software-analytics-book's Introduction

IN4334 - A Literature Survey of Software Analytics Book

This is the repository in which we collaboratively create our survey on software analytics from course IN4334, software analytics. Please file a pull request with your changes. Others will then review it.

Build Status

Dependencies

  1. Fork this repository (and keep your fork updated).
  2. Install RStudio and RMarkdown.
  3. Open book.Rproj to contribute to the book. index.Rmd binds it together.

How to ...

This repository is based on a minimal example of a book based on R Markdown and bookdown (https://github.com/rstudio/bookdown). Please see the page "Get Started" at https://bookdown.org/yihui/bookdown/ for how to compile this example into HTML. You may generate a copy of the book in bookdown::pdf_book format by calling bookdown::render_book('index.Rmd', 'bookdown::pdf_book'). More detailed instructions are available here https://bookdown.org/yihui/bookdown/build-the-book.html.

You can find the preview of this example at https://bookdown.org/yihui/bookdown-demo/.

software-analytics-book's Issues

Numeric (ACM) citation style

@gousiosg wrote in the Brightspace announcement: "I've updated the book front mater to use the ACM format." However, this has not actually happened, and I tried to do it myself, but failed miserably.

When changing the biblio-style from index.Rmd from apalike to acm, the build script fails with the error message "! Package natbib Error: Bibliography not compatible with author-year citations."

When changing the biblio-style to plain, the PDF has numeric citations, but the HTML still has author-year citations.

Enable pushing to GitHub Pages in deploy

I think that it would be nice to be able to easily view the current version of the book. Such as the following: software-analytics-book (on our fork). This also provides easy access to the pdf/epub without having to go through the LaTeX hassle.

To enable this you'd need to set the GITHUB_PAT environment variable in Travis CI to a Private Access Token from GitHub. (Make sure to keep it secret so it can't be used from pull-requests and misused in general.)

And in the repo the GitHub pages source needs to be enabled.

The site would show up at https://saltudelft.github.io/software-analytics-book/
