gowla-macro-boards's Issues

Some feedback/suggestions for V1

Hi Gowla!

I ordered a PCB and top layer from your eBay store and I only got around to putting it together today as my first attempt at a custom keyboard. Admittedly my soldering leaves something to be desired but it was great fun and the board looks and works great.

Some suggestions if you're interested:

  • You may want to look at providing/suggesting larger spacers for the bottom of the board. I socketed my pro micro rather than soldering it directly to the board and it stands too proud from the board for the provided (8mm?) standoffs. I ended up combining the 3mm and 8mm standoffs to fit the pro micro underneath.
  • Space for a reset button on the board might be handy as an option
  • The instructions don't reference the optional top layer at all so I wasn't sure whether it sat above or below the switches
  • More pictures to accompany the instructions would be helpful!

OLED on RGB boards

Hi,

While one waits for the next board version to be tested, I wonder if there are free pins on the eRGB to install a OLED display to show which layer one is on. From a quick glance I think pins 2 and 3 that should work for the SCK and SDA are busy already, right?

Since this is implemented successfully in the new version, I just thought I'll ask.

2D drawings for the top plate

Hi Sam, I'd like to cut some veneer for the top plate with a laser cutter and need a 2D vector drawing of the top plate. Do you have some drawing?

Easy RGB Extension for V1 PCBs

Hey Sam, Great little PCB, super easy to get working. I'm used to working with Arduino, but new to QMK, and your guide was super easy to follow. I'm using this for a little streamdeck for using with OBS when online teaching.

Your PCB footprint/dimensions perfectly allows for a 24 LED Neopixel ring (NeoPixel Ring - 24 x WS2812 5050 RGB LED with Integrated Drivers). Figured I would add the images here in case it was useful for building future versions. I've just wired the 5V pin to VCC, and then GND and Pin 14 for the Data Input.

Top plates and soldering order/switch position

Hi!

Just got one of the PCBs and it looks great! Very well built and great finish.

I just have a doubt regarding key switch positions when using a top plate. From pictures, and from what makes more sense, the switches are placed above the top plate. This way the spacing is perfect and the plate takes on the weight of the key presses.

However, I can't seem to find a way to make this happen. Since I need to 1) solder at least one of the switches in order to 2) solder the Pro Micro, if I place the switch above the plate, I won't be able to solder the Pro Micro.

Should the plate go over the switches, then? If so, are the 2mm spacers included in the package the correct length?

Or am I thinking the wrong way about something? :)

Thanks!
