I think it'd be better to use mongoose in order to keep track of and maintain schema for the whole thing. ORM versus just straight queries.

Avoid

All forms are supposed to have container elements prior to inputs (ex. <form><div><input>)
Definitely use bootstrap to the fullest rather than for some basic styling. (The grid, spans, rows, etc. are your friends)
I'd honestly avoid floating things. display: inline-block has been good to me, especially when things can vary in size (such as user-generated text content). The top alignment issue I had with it is resolved by vertical-align: top.

app.get("/newthread", function(req, res){ controllers.newthread(req, res)});

is the same as

app.get("/newthread", controllers.newthread);

Also considering using js dictionaries/maps/objects {"whatever": something} to format a few things. Such as exports. It's a convenient and clean structure (also more DRY).
