GirlScript Ireland Gaming Booster

This repository contains all the work done by participants for the Gaming Booster Program 2020 by GirlScript Ireland.

About Gaming Booster:

Gaming Booster is an intiative taken up the GirlScript Ireland chapter to upskill students from all around the globe in the field of game development. It is a four week intiative that runs through the entire of August 2020. Participants from India,Ireland,Brazil,Spain,Mexico and Kazakhstan are guided to build two functionally games by the end of program. p5.js and Processing are preferred for development.

Projects to be Completed by Participants:🏗

  • Flappy Bird
  • Snake Game

Pre-requisites:

  • Ability to use GitHub
  • Understanding of Version Control
  • Basics of programming concepts like variables, expressions, data types, comments, operators, conditionals(branching + iteration), functions and Object Oriented Programming
  • Prior knowledge of Java or JavaScript is preferred but not mandatory

Weekly Tasks

Week 1:

  • Opening Ceremony
  • Networking & Introduction
  • Download and install the processing editor
  • Understand the syntax of processing
  • Setup basics sketch of Flappy Bird

Week 2:

  • Code Flappy Bird in Processing
  • Learn how to debug
  • Get feedback
  • Improve the design
  • Optimize or Document the code more if possible

Week 3:

  • Get used to p5.js and its online editor
  • Create Snake Game basic structure
  • Create the movement of the snake in different directions, random appearances of food, grid

Week 4:

  • Wrap up with the Snake Game
  • Get feedback
  • Improve the design
  • Optimize or Document the code more if possible
  • Discuss further steps
  • Closing ceremony
