easy-screenshot's Issues

Feature Requested

Hi, I think it will be great if I can send some code from youtube videos- or any other screen that have a text inside images - to https://www.onlineocr.net/ to get the code being display. thank you

Need e10s support

Under e10s no screenshot is taken. Can you please add e10 support and also have your add-on signed which I think Mozilla does for you but I don't know if there are any criteria your add-on needs.

[Feature Request] Optional cancel and OK buttons for "capture visual portion"

Can the OPTION to have a cancel and ok button next to the crop we just made instead of immediately saving the cropped screenshot to disk when we release the left mouse button? That way, if we didn't crop it just right we can cancel it, and if we got it right, we can ok it to save it to disk? Again, this could be an option so the people who don't like this behavior don't have to use it.

This would be a great feature so we don't have to edit the screenshot after we have taken it if we didn't do the crop just right. Easy Screenshot would just take care of it all for us.

Full page capture?

Love the extension. It's miles ahead of "Awesome Screenshot".

Any thoughts on enabling a "full page" capture in addition to the "visual screen" and "portion" options?

Capture a Portion no longer creating image to save (Chrome)

At some point a couple weeks ago or more, the "capture a portion" option stopped working. I can go through the steps of capturing a portion, but after releasing the mouse button when the window is sized to where I want it, the capture window disappears and nothing else happens. This used to generate a file to save, which is the what differentiates this tool from the Windows clipper.

Is Chrome now blocking something, or Windows? Please advise.

"Capture a Portion" feature causes all future HTTP Requests to timeout

After using the "Capture a Portion" feature from Google Chrome Version 99.0.4844.82 (Official Build) (64-bit) as well as previous versions, the browsers lose the ability to make new HTTP requests, pages just spin and never load.

The screenshot is successfully generated, but then the browser windows are unusable until I close all instances of Chrome and restart.

addons.mozilla.org Install Button FF 57-

Challenge

About the newer version of this add-on 0.3.3 for Firefox which uses WebExtension at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-clipper-easy-screenshot/

It reads "Compatible with Firefox 57+" but presently users with Firefox older than 57 are able to install the extension. As a result it's risky that a large number of users will have issues.

Suggested resolution

On that page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-clipper-easy-screenshot/
I suggest to configure that page so that only users with Firefox 57+ are able to install it. The add-on maintainer is able to easily and quickly activate that feature. Assuming it works.

Steps to reproduce issue

  1. Using Firefox 45.9.0 go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-clipper-easy-screenshot/
  2. Click on "Add to Firefox" button. Find that screenshot to clarify location. The expected result is that users should not be able to click on that button. That button should be gray out/deactivated.
  3. After that add-on is installed. Try to use it. It will not work. Nothing works. That's normal because it requires Firefox 57+. It's risky that user will post a negative review. Which in turn affect the number of future user and contributors.

Screenshots

Add timestamp to filename output?

Currently, the filename is just the title and if you make multiple screenshots on the same page it tries to save the images with the same filename? Can we have an option to add a timestamp so we can get files whose names don't conflict? Perhaps with format 01-01-2000 - 0:00:00?

Capture Entire Screen failes on zoomed page

Steps to reproduce

  1. Using Firefox, go to https://www.debian.org
  2. Still using Firefox, do a 160% zoom on this page.
  3. Using Easy Screenshot version 0.3.7, do a Capture Entire Screen
  4. The screenshot is missing parts. Somehow, within the screenshot there are overlaps. This is the challenge. In this screenshot below, the orange arrows show an example of missing parts.

  5. The needed end result is a complete Capture Entire Screen at 160% without missing parts. For example this:

Temporary Workaround

To temporarily resolved this challenge, use Firefox, temporarily change the zoom from 160% to 100%. Try again. This time Capture Entire Screen successfully take the screenshot without overlap.

This screenshot shows this temporary workaround end result

Cause

This is a speculation about what caused this challenge. Maybe somehow, Easy Screenshot is not yet aware of the present page zoom status? In other words, the Easy Screenshot Capture Entire Screen use a 100% zoom page for its width and height to try to capture a page display at 160%. In turn, the capture is missing parts. In other words, Easy Screenshot is successful at taking a screenshot of all the parts at 160%. But then somehow Easy Screenshot merged all those parts into a canvas at 100%? Thus, the merged parts are automatically overlapped. To fit within a canvas at 100%.

Related information "Note that if the page size is bigger than your window size and the "Capture Entire Screen" option is selected, the extension needs to scroll the entire page to capture different parts and merge these parts to generate a single image from the entire page. Also, note that the resolution of the taken image depends on the screen resolution. For instance, if you have a 4K display (like Retina displays), the image resolution is at least four times better than a normal display." Contribution

Any volunteer for a patch? Both me and the Ubertus team would be happy to contribute testing and documentation, if needed.
