There are no other fancy features.

Installation

Download the latest release and extract Menu Bar Ticker.app from the menubar-ticker-vX.Y.Z.tar.bz2 archive. Move it into the Applications folder. Follow Apple's instructions to start the app automatically when you log in.

Since the app is not signed, you will need to right-click and select "Open" the first time you launch the app. A dialog will appear:

"Menu Bar Ticker.app" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Click "Open". If the app does not appear in the menu bar, right-click on the app again and select "Open".

The first time you run Music or Spotify together with Menu Bar Ticker, a dialog will appear for each app:

"Menu Bar Ticker.app" wants access to control "Music.app". Allowing control will provide access to documents and data in "Music.app", and to perform actions within that app.

Menu Bar Ticker needs permission to read the current song.

Click "OK".

menubar-ticker's Issues

Does not work with Podcasts.app in Catalina 10.15.7

I love this app -- but it does not seem to support displaying podcast info when playing something from Podcasts.app

Any chance of that getting fixed, or added as a feature? Thanks!

Running:
MenubarTicker.app -- Version 1.1.0
Podcasts.app -- Version 1.0.0 (1440.4)
macOS Catalina -- Version 10.15.7 (19H2)

Starting with Spotify automatically (plus some other refinements)

It would be great if the app started with Spotify automatically. And/or if the idle sound note icon could be disabled. Also, if the text would not display "Quit" on a normal left click, only on right click. And double click would bring Spotify forward.
Otherwise it's the best app of its kind I've found, simple and minimal.

No longer displaying for Spotify Connect

👋 Hello! Thanks for creating this application! Today, I noticed it was no longer displaying the song details in the menu bar when using Spotify. I wonder if this has something to do with an update in Spotify's app recently? Also, the menu bar icon is not 🎵 but rather a dash -.

macOS 10.14.5
Spotify 1.1.9.383.g9f48828e

Let me know if you need any further information to help figure this out. Thanks!

More space-efficient layout: Allow scrolling of song title

Some song titles might obviously be very long, which becomes an issue on smaller screens:

To remedy this, would it be possible to have a maximum width of the ticker and scroll the title back and forth? Here's a prototype I mocked in using Figma:

Screen.Recording.2023-09-10.at.17.33.17.mov

This could be an optional setting, available via the menu panel:

Finally I just wanna say that I really, really appreciate the lil' app!
