bioinformatics-internship's Introduction

Bioinformatics-Internship

Hello there! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

My name is Simeon Hebrew, a bioinformatics intern at the Molecular Biology and Bioinformatcs Unit (MBBU) at the International Centre For Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). I have a background in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology but I took up a bioinformatics project during my final undergraduate project.

I am very excited to begin this journey of learning the in silico techniques necessary for handling biological data using bioinformatics pipelines and workflows. I am particularly keen to learn on how to develop algorithms and design computational simulations that are tailored to analyze how biological systems function in their natural state and when exposed to different environment. Hence, this has sparked a major in computational biology.

I am also interested in experiencing the interdisciplinary nature of bioinformatics which utilises computaional systems to make sense to biodata. This will also allow me to contribute to bridging the data annotation gap so that the rate at which biological data is produced can be equivalent to the rate at which it is analyzed and annotated for sensible research.

Vision

Long Term Vision To become an established computational biologist who is able to support human health research by developing algorithms and models that are needed to understand biological systems.

Short Term Vision To contribute to the bioinformatics projects being carried out at ICIPE using the skills acquired and later apply for postgraduate programs in computational biology.

To interact with my learning timeline for my internship period, feel free to visit my roadmap.

I am looking forward to interact with present and aspiring bioinformaticians and computational biologists who share the same interests and passion!

You can reach me via my Twitter account and I will be happy to engage with you.

Thank you!:sparkles:

bioinformatics-internship's Issues

Learning and Practising GitHub

  • This will be done by creating repos, editing them, allowing others to contribute and merging pull requests so as to familiarize myself with the software. It will also involve forking other authors' repos and trying to edit them.

Roadmap

Hello! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

With a goal of becoming competent in computational biology, I will need to follow a series of steps so as to systematically gain exposure to the skillset that one requires to comfortably design and operate bioinformatics pipelines and workflows.

Feel free to check my READMe file if you are yet to look at it!

How do I get there?

This issue is a roadmap all the training themes which I will undergo so as to be able to achieve my long-term and short-term visions.
