In the current state the addon in neither working on anki 2.0 (qt4) nor in anki 2.1 (qt5).

Anki 2.0:

Some libraries (e.g. QtWebkit4) required by anki are not shipped anymore by the linux distributions. For this reason running anki 2.0 from source is not possible (or at least I didn't manage to run it).

Anki 2.0 is now shipped as a compiled binary to make it run on the mentioned distributions, but in this case, all the system python libraries are inaccessible, so the FF addon doesn't work.

Anki 2.1

In Anki 2.1 some core part completely changed, and injecting HTML code/javascript as I was doing in the 2.0 version doesn't work anymore, or it is more difficult. So the porting to Qt5 was a little bit stuck. Nonetheless, I think it is possible, but it requires a bit of work to reach a first usable version.

Any help in trying to make the addon work again in any of the 3 cases is welcomed.
