Do you know what chars are you specifically having problems with?
I've set the next update to clean for unicode, since I've got a lot of users in Japan, but this is a new error to me.

Well, maybe I can take a look at the unicode thing cause I know Chinese which has more or less the similar situation like Japanese.

Thanks Henry,
Hey, I saw your fork and I really don't know much about Maven.
Quite frankly, I'm not sure what to do with it or how to integrate it
with Eclipse.
Have you got a tutorial for Maven you could recommend? I also do Android
work so I'm wedded to Eclipse right now, but if there's a way I can get
it to work without having to give up my IDE I'd be interested in
learning more.

I'd suggest tutorial produced by Sonatype. http://www.sonatype.com/books/mvnref-book/reference/
If you use Eclipse, you can install m2eclipse plugin from the Eclipse Marketplace.

In this case it was an em-dash, "—" The Amazon error returned the headers and the character was omitted from the description, so I suspected something was getting mangled.
