We don't need this, because we always fetch the whole file.

Currently, when receiving new chat content the chat automatically scrolls down so that the user can read the incoming messages.

This also happens when the user scrolled up to read previous messages, e.g. to read what happened when he wasn't here.

This will allow the user to switch the chat from the default chat file to another chat file.

This is more than just a client side change, because we need to buffer the chat log into a buffered file. Currently we read from the chatlog copy chat.buf and write to the "normal" chat file.

Possible solution

copy all chat files to corresponding <chat>.buf counterparts and implement client side logic for switching. We can also read the directory (default ls -l output) to provide some nice dropdown listing.

This also needs some proper concept, because I personally don't want to always send join/part messages when I shortly look into the chat.

I can imagine some configuration checkbox or some manual button.

I tested long polling with server response in time, but never really tested it with a timeout. I'm quite new to long polling and dynamically loading stuff, so we should check the implementation.
