poketchfitbit's Introduction

Hi there!

I'm Jack Lloyd-Walters, I'm one of those "programmer people" everyone likes to ask for printer advice. Sometimes I write code that does stuff, most of the time that code is purely for my own entertainment.

Disclaimer: I do not know anything about printers. or advice.
No really, please help. I know nothing about printers and they won't stop asking.

About me

I’m a software engineer I for the Metal as a Service team at Canonical. Prior to that, I studied Physics, Astronomy, and Cosmology and the University of Portsmouth where I graduated with First class Masters.

I love writing code with Python, and I reckon I've become fairly competent with it in the many years since 2011.

My primary interests are definitely spaceflight, astronomy, and programming. I wonder how many of those were obvious

Feel free to visit my personal website, I'll steadily be adding anything of relevance there, as well as collating all of my projects

poketchfitbit's Issues

Unable to leave stats view

Describe the bug
If stats view is enabled, switching to it makes the user unable to switch off of it

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. enable stats view
  2. switch to stats view

Sense 2, version 60.200001.184.52

Additional context
Issue noticed with platinum skin on, pt pink edge color, all face colors, green screen color, pikachu mascot, with all other apps both enabled and disabled

Fitbit Versa 2 - label: not available

Describe the bug
Unable to install from shop app onto Versa 2.

To Reproduce
Open fitbit app
Go to clocks/apps
Search Poketch
Open watchface
Unable to click install.
Label: not available (due to firmware maybe?)

Expected behavior
Expected to be able to install.

Poketch app ideas

App ideas

  • In Pokemon Platinum there was an unused app that functioned like a stopwatch.
The stopwatch featured a voltorb style button that when pressed, started and stopped a stopwatch. I would really like to see this added if possible

  • The calculator is another app that I thought could be added I know there is a Fitbit app for calculator but you have a timer on there too

  • Coin flip is one of my most wanted poketch apps I would like to see implemented. One because I won't need a coin anymore for tough decisions and two the little Magikarp is so cute 🥰

Another thing, please make it so only the button switches the poketch app. When I swipe down with my Versa 2 to get to my phone notifications it goes from the digital clock to the Snorlax timer, and its driving me crazy switching back between the two. Maybe there could be a setting?

Overall looks fantastic, never changing clocks

Calendar issue

Describe the bug
The month is wrong for December. It says 21 instead of 12. Only month that's been weird that I've seen

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to 'calandar
  2. Look at month
  3. See month number

Expected behavior
Should show the correct month

Introduce new screenshots

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The app screenshots are no longer up to date. They do not show additional app views, nor the updated version of old views, nor the new UI changes

Describe the solution you'd like
More screenshots of all views from the fitbit simulator

Describe alternatives you've considered
Just using GNU Image Manipulation to create the screenshots without the simulator.

Additional context
These should be updated to show the current state of the app.

(Sense) Long press actions don't work due to OS intercept

On the Sense (at minimum), a long press on the clock face (I haven't measured the actual duration, but I can do experiments if desired) automatically starts the "Clocks" built-in applet, which is used to switch the clock face. From what I can determine, this can't be disabled through a setting on either the watch or mobile app. As a result, all functionality that involves a long press on affected platforms is effectively broken.

Assuming this can't be overridden from the code's side, a possible workaround would be to offer an option to adjust how long a tap needs to be to be considered a long tap, as well as the option to enable the use of a double tap (which can use the length adjustment to determine how quick the double tap needs to be to activate).

Unreadable text/visual aberrations

Describe the bug
Text sometimes appears garbled and some artifacts occur in each app. Garbled text most obvious on the move calculator and the timer

Screenshots

Sense 2, version 60.200001.184.52

Additional context
For the move calculator, how garbled it is changes not only on the specific text, but the text around it. For example in the screenshot the opponent's fighting type is completely unreadable, but if their secondary typing is water, electric, flying, or dragon it's still garbled, but still readable

Show heart rate in Stats View

Describe the solution you'd like
A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

You can see your steps both in the pedometer view and in the stats view. Instead of showing duplicated information you could show the heart rate. (Note: needs an additional permission)

The HP bar could be filled relative to your max heart rate. (formula: 220 - age)

Here is a mock-up how the final stats view could look like:

Additional context
Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

I use the original Versa.

Customization broken on Versa 4

In the settings, I tried to change the customization of the face. However, it doesn't update on the device even with restarting the app, syncing, and switching faces.

Snorlax timer bug

Describe the bug
If you press the reset button multiple times it duplicates the arrow flashing

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to the clock
  2. Click on the up button
  3. Press on the reset button (2 times should do it)
  4. 🐛

Swiping to view other tiles switches the clock face

Describe the bug
When swiping to the left, right, up, or down to view other tiles, notifications, or the settings page the Poketch clock views this as a tap and will change to the next page. If using the Platinum watch face, this will go forward or backward depending on if you tap the top or bottom of the screen.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Swipe in any direction on the screen.
  2. Swipe the opposite direction from what you did before.
  3. The watch face is now on the next page of the Poketch.

Expected behavior
The Poketch should still be on the same watch face from before swiping.

Issue with entire interface

The interface has reverted to it's original colors and will not swap between apps anymore. It will only show the clock section. I've tried to change it in the fitbit app, but nothing is changing.

12-Hour Clock

I am a big fan of the Pokémon games and was so happy to see this watch face as an option for my Versa 2.

I have a slight learning disability that makes it difficult to comprehend a 24-hour digital clock on the fly. Instead of a quick glance, it takes me a little longer to do the conversion in my head. I love the watch face and all its other functions (goodbye type matchup printout on my wall!!) but I find myself not able to use it if I’m out and about because of this.

I’m a huge fan of your work on this watch face and would consider this a 5/5 if there was 12-hour digital clock option.

If you could add in a 12-hour clock option, I would be extremely grateful. It doesn’t even have to say AM or PM, just a simple 12-hour digital clock option in the settings.

Non essential request: I also have a secondary suggestion of supporting heart rate on the clock screen. Specifically a small animated indicator on one of the top corners, whether that be a small beating heart or an electrocardiograph line. That being said, I can understand if this secondary suggestion is too far a leap from what was intended for this watch face.
