dragster's Issues

remote player support

In order to set a competition element, enable 2 users to participate on stage.

Deliverables:

  • 2-way communication mechanism
  • enemy car can be driven by another player

Add task automation system

In order to modernize the codebase and make it easier to escalate, install a task automation system that will be in charge of handling repetitive tasks such as minification, building, transpiling, deploying.

Deliverables:

  • A task automation system installed on the project.
  • Current jobs (if any) are connected to the automation system.

Session duration management

BG: connections that don't send the disconnection signal may cause connections to be kept open.

Solution proposals:

  • expire sessions after certain time
  • implement a heartbeat mechanism
  • a combination of the above

Setup CI

Deliverables:

  • circleci account
  • tests run upon merge
  • setup requirements in repo

Convert game's JS files to ES6 syntax on dev stage

In order to learn the syntax differences, convert declarations like var to let, and use the new language features as much as possible.

Deliverables:

  • All game files are fully converted onto es6-specific js.

Add ES5->6 transpiler

In order to be able to make the game run across platforms, we need to transpile into es5 until fully supported.

Deliverables:

  • package.json has transpiler dependecies listed
  • es5 transpiled code

Add minification mechanism

In order to reduce resource usage during initial load, minify the resources being used, it could seem as early optimization, but the upside is that is being added in an early stage when it's still easy to detect and fix any issue during the installation process.

sessions can overlap

A rare behavior that makes the car to shift to another position beyond the expected pointed me into discovering that is caused by a dead session being persisted in a given room. This behavior can be seen when connecting at least 2-3 clients and the most common representation is that once the guest car starts to move, the same car blinks back to its previous position and then blinks back to the received position, meaning the car is receiving 2 positions at the same time.

This bug needs a visual reference.

Game mechanics

Define and implement the game mechanics:

  • How the game starts
  • How to win the game
  • How to lose the game

Deliverables:

  • Wiki document.
  • Tasks breakdown in project, as Github issues.

Convert class-like functions into es6 classes

In order to modernize the codebase and make it easier to escalate it, convert them into es6 classes and export/import them.

Deliverables:

  • Pull request containing the modified files.
  • Each submitted file should have the class-like functions into es6 classes.
  • Every JS file in the repo should follow the standard.

Setup production env

Deliverables:

  • App's public URL with app running properly
  • Configurations and deployment mechanisms (if any) are present in repo.

Testing procedures

Define and implement the mechanisms for testing automation.

Deliverables:

  • Tasks breakdown in project, as Github issues.
