I've been debugging this like mad, and I hope I'm missing something obvious.
I've added:
def start(_type, _args) do
import Supervisor.Spec
children = [
worker(:brod_sup, []),
worker(Kaffe.Consumer, [])
]
opts = [strategy: :one_for_one, name: EmailService.Supervisor]
Supervisor.start_link(children, opts)
end
and now Elixir 1.4 and 1.3 both exit with status code 0 silently :(

This was my own fault
from kaffe.
