Service Status [ Running | Stopped ] - Command required for the status

I need a command to get Service Status [ Running | Stopped ].

Policy Based Routing - Status - Service Status - Running

Policy Based Routing - Status - Service Status - Stopped

Under unknown circumstances, PBR stops working and the service stops. For a script I need the command to query the service status [Running or Stopped].

If i run the command service pbr status | grep stopped when PBR has stopped, it return nothing.
Also the command service pbr running return nothing.

Please tell me which command is used to query the current status (Running or Stopped). ๐Ÿ™‚

Can't add this repo to the feeds list to compile OpenWrt

I tried to compile OpenWrt with some of the packages on this repo (vpn-policy-routing and luci-app-vpn-policy-routing) but could't find the way to correctly add it to the feeds.

The instructions on the webpage are for the Image Builder and SDK. I didn't figure out the way to do it by adding the repo to the file feeds.conf.default. When later running make menuconfig, the packages showed nowhere.

The way I did it was adding the git repo url preceded by the key src-git like:
src-git stangri_repo https://github.com/stangri/openwrt_packages.git

I ended up giving up and deciding to install it manually once the binary was flashed but I encountered #11

Update LuCI Rosy Theme Package

Thanks for creating a great repository! It seems the LuCI Rosy Theme has been updated and since been included in mainline builds. I'm continuing to use your repository in the interim, and appreciate the IPK Package inclusions.

I was wondering if there would be a way to get a current / latest build of the LuCI Rosy Theme included?

Please see the following links to view the UI changes as well as forum thread regarding some of the other changes to the theme since then:

Thanks again!

`vpn-policy-routing`'s "Word about Default Routing" is confusing

A Word About Default Routing reads:

Service does not alter the default routing. Depending on your VPN tunnel settings (and settings of the VPN server you are connecting to), the default routing might be set to go via WAN or via VPN tunnel. This service affects only routing of the traffic matching the policies. If you want to override default routing, follow the instructions below.

[followed by instructions]

What does any of this mean? It sounds like the default routing could be either WAN or VPN. What does "override [the] default routing" mean in this context? Swap? Do something else? It's unclear from the instructions that follow.

I think what this means to say is that if the default routing is to the VPN and not WAN, something like pull-filter ignore "redirect-gateway" can make it so that not all traffic goes through the VPN. It's unclear how that setting would help with the opposite (i.e., where the default was WAN).

Cannot find vpn-policy-routing package during opkg install

I am trying to install vpn-policy-routing and luci-app-vpn-policy-routing using the instructions I found on GitHub.

I am attempting this on a GL-iNet MT300N router running OpenWRT 18.6.4.

Your repository was successfully added to /etc/opkg/customfeeds.conf:

# add your custom package feeds here
#
# src/gz example_feed_name http://www.example.com/path/to/files
src/gz stangri_repo https://raw.githubusercontent.com/stangri/openwrt-repo/master

When I run opkg install vpn-policy-routing I get the following:

root@GL-MT300N-V2:~# opkg install vpn-policy-routing -V3 | grep -e "policy"
opkg_prepare_url_for_install: applying abpkg flag to vpn-policy-routing
pkg_hash_load_package_details_helper: found yet incomplete flagged abpkg vpn-policy-routing
pkg_hash_load_package_details_helper: skipping already seen flagged abpkg vpn-policy-routing
Unknown package 'vpn-policy-routing'.
Collected errors:
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package vpn-policy-routing.
root@GL-MT300N-V2:~#

Looking at the okg source, that "applying abpkg flag" message is associated with flagging the package state as SF_NEED_DETAIL and the presence of that flag indicates an error and the package is not loaded.

I am running version 3b417b9f41b4ceb5912d82f867dd5534e5675b5c (2017-12-07) of opkg.

Is there something wrong with the repository or its packages.gz file?

I've attached a -V4 opkg output to see if this helps.

Thanks...

opkg install debug.txt

Cannot get pbr working reliably with 3 VPNs

Trying to get pbr working using wan and 3 VPNs (1 Wireguard (tun_w) and 2 OpenVpn (tun_o1, tun_o2)).
I'm on OpenWrt 22.03.3 x86/64, tried both with and without the dnsmasq-full's nft sets.
Used to work fine on previous OpenWrt versions using the vpn-policy-routing.
No matter what I try, I'm only able to switch between wan and the tun_w. The strange thing is that occassionaly assigning the iterface to one of the tun_o works for some reason, but then it goes down by itself.

All in all, it goes as follows:

pbr setting: effective:
tun_o1 tun_w
tun_o2 tun_w (sometimes tun_o1 (not a typo))
tun_w tun_w
br-wan br-wan

All the interfaces are up and the host is able to access them just fine:

curl --interface tun_o1 https://ipecho.net/plain/
169.1...
curl --interface tun_o2 https://ipecho.net/plain/
163.1...
curl --interface tun_w https://ipecho.net/plain/
104.2...
curl --interface br-wan https://ipecho.net/plain/
109.2...

And that's a test fresh install, just installed pbr and configured the interfaces.

The relevant configs are as follows:

/etc/config/pbr:

Can't install vpn-policy-routing on my own built system

I tried to install both luci-app-vpn-policy-routing and vpn-policy-routing on a system I build instead of using the provided binary for my device. I get the following error on LuCi:

Collected errors:
 * satisfy_dependencies_for: Cannot satisfy the following dependencies for vpn-policy-routing:
 * 	kernel (= 4.14.131-1-94e97c3b21ec52cb72cec4eaff828985)
 * opkg_install_cmd: Cannot install package vpn-policy-routing.

My kernel version, as per uname -r is 4.14.131

I don't know what the optimal solution is but maybe removing the restriction to use the kernel version of the "official" binary release is the way to go.

Prominently identify key feature differences between `vpn-policy-routing` and `vpnbypass` in documentation where newcomers are likely to land and benefit from guidance

It's how much overlap there is between vpn-policy-routing and vpnbypass. At first blush, they seem to solve similar problems, but it's not clear which use cases would be better served by which packages.

Is vpn-policy-routing for identifying small slices of traffic for use with a VPN, where not routing through the VPN is the default (i.e., opt-in to the VPN), where vpnbypass is for identifying small slices of traffic to bypass a VPN, where traffic is routed through the VPN is the default (i.e., opt-out of the VPN)?

Perhaps this can be documented in each respective READMEs?

Something like:

vpn-policy-routing is good when you're [insert use cases here]. If you're looking for something to do [other use cases here], check out vpnbypass instead.

And vice versa for vpnbypass.

`vpn-policy-routing` OpenVPN instructions confusion/contradictions?

Basic OpenVPN Client Config indicates that one should create this interface:

config interface 'vpnc'
  option proto 'none'
  option ifname 'ovpnc0'

This seems to conflict with the earlier instructions in Local OpenVPN Server + OpenVPN Client (Scenario 1):

config interface 'vpnclient'
  option proto 'none'
  option ifname 'ovpnc0'

Are those interfaces meant to be the same (or solve similar problems)? Are their names different for a reason? Those two sections can't be combined, correct? (Meaning they are mutually exclusive?) The docs aren't quite clear on this point.

Can you identify what I've set up improperly? My system is a snapshot from the last couple days so maybe the issue is there?

Thanks,

Malformed package file luci-app-pbr_0.9.9-9_all.ipk

Hi - really excited to try pbr

I followed the instructions here but opkg update gives

Downloading https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/stangri/repo.openwrt.melmac.net/Packages.sig
Premature end of file
Signature check failed.

Tried to wget the ipk to do a manual opkg install which gives

opkg install luci-app-pbr_0.9.9-9_all.ipk
Collected errors:
 * pkg_init_from_file: Malformed package file luci-app-pbr_0.9.9-9_all.ipk.

Sorry if it's something obvious and not related to the source file - I don't really understand opkg that well. Thought it might have something to do with the recent update to pbr but I get the same with the luci-app-https-dns-proxy_2022-10-15-6_all.ipk
