icons's Introduction

Icons

Here I will be storing some icons and other resources to be used on stoneydsp.com.

I was intrigued by the nextjs onelink example and how it pipes out the favicon on the client side; it had me recall some intrguing ideas about serving Win32-style compiled icon binaries by compiling some .ico files using CMakeRC, then piping them out via the NodeJS runtime by using the Node Addon API.

The current thinking process is;

  • Generate your resources in Figma or what have you, export them all as .png
  • Use CMake-js to create a node binary that returns CMakeRC's functions/methods from the 'cmrc.hpp' generated header
  • Compile the images to binary lib and/or raw bytecode, whichever makes the most sense
  • Serve the compiled image data, via CMakeRC's methods, through the node addon interface, into the .js world
  • If successful, possibly bundle as an NPM package
  • If successful, possibly template the project for others

There are a couple of dots to connect, but since first messing with those node addons I had been looking for a nice use case such as this. CMakeRC makes much of the work dead easy, and I believe I have the other pieces necessary; just need some time to revisit this based on priority.

Stay tuned!
