topscroll's Introduction

TopScroll — browser extension

Description

★ Click on the left border of any page for scroll to the top. Just pull the cursor to the left screen edge, click — and you're there!
★ Click again — and you're back where stopped reading.

★ Or right click for scroll to the bottom.
Scroll up demo

There are already a number of browser extensions which can add the "scroll up" buttons in all possible places cluttering the precious screen space. With TopScroll you won't need such buttons and will be able to do rapid scrolling since moving the mouse to the left and clicking is the easiest thing to do.

If you use the browser not in fullscreen mode, you may want to increase clickable area width in the extension options.

It does not affect the appearance of web pages.
It may not work on some sites with tricky page layouts. If you found a popular website where the extension doesn't work — feel free to shoot a bug report here.

How it works

Adds 1-pixel-width invisible div to the left border of the page with appropriate JS event handlers. Viola!

topscroll's Issues

Scroll to bottom

Maybe a good idea, scroll to bottom, when I just load the page and click on the left border of a page.

Not working with Gmail

Hi there,

Is it possible that topscroll is not working with Gmail?

If I click on the edge at the left side of the screen, it does not scroll to the top.

Thanks,

Robert

Visible panel

Add settings page with ability to turn on/off visible "scroll to top" panel.

Port to Firefox?

Hi!

I've been using TopScroll in Chrome for a long time, and it's become a habit to try and scroll pages that way: it just feels right.

Now, I'm thinking of Firefox, at least for a while. Apparently, you could publish most Chromium extensions to Firefox (or, at least, Firefox Quantum). I've tried to use TopScroll in Quantum in debug mode, to no avail: errors appear in relation to the manifest and script contents, which is above my paygrade.

So, I have to ask: could you possibly port the extenstion to Firefox? From the sound of it, there are few obstacles to doing so, since the API supported are mostly the same between the browser engines.

Issue with couple monitors

If you have couple monitor (2 or 3), it's big problem to catch left side browser for click. Maybe need to add line with width 3-5 px for click.
