Sometimes a feature needs a period job to run. Whatever the solution, it needs to be configured on MacOS, NixOS, and Ubuntu the same way. Preferably with this repo.

Here is a living list of problems of the re-occurring tasks I would like to run.

• git fetch in ~/.dotfiles.
• nix-store --gc
• nix-channel --update
• nix-env --upgrade (And inform user nix-env --rollback )
• borg extract --dry-run /path/to/repo::my-files (aka test a backup) borg check?

Solutions Considered

cron NixOS configures cron jobs using /etc/nixos/configuration.nix, but ubuntu and MacOS use crontab.

systemd Systemd can run as a user and run periodic jobs using OnUnitInactiveSec in service definitions. I can't find a way to use it on MacOS.

Everytime setup.sh runs, save a hash of the file and check if the hash matches in .bashrc.
