For apps that use the erlang distribution protocol it's often necessary to have a hostname that can be resolved to it's ip address. Unfortunately Kubernetes doesn't assign the resolvable hostname of the pod as the container hostname to discourage people relying on such a thing. Great for web type environments but not with erlang.

When running under Kubernetes, set the following environment variables to true:

• KUBE_HOSTNAME_FIX
• KUBE_HOSTNAME_SHORT.

This exports the correct HOSTNAME environment vars as well as adding the host to /etc/hosts, writing over /etc/hostname, and wrapping the hostname binary with a custom wrapper that will return the correct hostname (achieved by manipulating the PATH).

This is a known problem with rabbitmq-autocluster, referenced here:
aweber/rabbitmq-autocluster#52

It has been fixed, however the build artifacts under releases is quite old. I attempted to follow the build instructions on the main README.md page, but I am not familiar enough with building rabbitmq/erlang plugins to successfully complete it.
