I believe this goes beyond the scope of the plugin, but I would be happy to consider it, though it would not be something we would look into right away.

We really dont want to be doing depth-checking on folders that deep, as it will just make the backup task more bloated than it already is, I think we should just keep it so you can exclude plugins based on their JAR file, or their data folder.

Everyone agree?

Well i dont see a problem with per directory exclude lists its a simple filter that can be configured via config. Implementing this has to include Error checking too, if the format is wrong.

One example where I would need this:

I love dynmap (with my new server, the old one was not "strong" enough)
But several maps of different worlds have bloated the subfolder /plugins/dynmap/web/tiles to several GB of data. So I keep dynmap excluded from the backup.

It would be fine to exclude this subdirectory but backup the rest of the config, because the rest contains also data created while playing (i.e. the marker-lables)

However I will also post to dynmap's developers that it would be great if you were able to define the path to the "web" subfolder. Which would than be outside of your concerns.

Edit:
Hmm... Now that I recreated my very, very old dynmap-config file (i.e. deleted it and restarted the server) I find that they added such an option in the configuration.txt:
tilespath: web/tiles (can also be set to an absolute path outside of the plugins-directory)
Just for anybody with the same problem ;-)

Set "excludeplugins" to "web"

This is now properly implemented in the latest dev build.
