tca-helper-meet's Issues

Help Request Procedure

My suggestion on new procedure to get help

In order to ask for help, one must follow this new procedure:

  • Use a bot command in which they explain their problem/error in a help request channel
  • The one asking will have to check that they've done a list of items
    • Learnt language basics
    • Googled the issue
    • Removed the token/other creds from any media/code they send
  • It gets sent to a channel where anyone can accept this question and CodingBot v4 assigns a channel to both of them
  • The person who accepts then helps resolve the issue
  • The person then thanks the helper using .thank

Auto responder

Some auto responder that responds to "Syntax Error" "Indentation Error" etc. With the same contents as r!tag learnpython @FalseDev

Helping update

Alright so here is what im thinking, Since were changing the way people are getting help I'd say we replace.

  • Community Figure role, stopping people who don't know what they are doing from giving incorrect answers. A community figure is someone who is known in the community and others.

  • Modmail or Switching our helping system to what you guys think is best, personally I'd say use Tickets for giving Support and Modmail for Moderation cases ETC.

Community Bin enhancement proposal

This is my proposed idea to fix, improvise and perfect the community bin.

Proposal

Community bin channel in TCA will be deprecated (send_message perms will be removed) and a new Github repository under @The-Coding-Academy will be created.

This will then be the new community bin, A Github repository which has all the code, all organized, easy to search and improve.

Adding code

In order to add code here, one will have to fork the repository and send a pull request.
This will then be approved/closed by @The-Coding-Academy/helpers or @The-Coding-Academy/head-helpers.

Code Quality

This way we can request changes in the pull request to fix any bad code/practices

This proposal is linked with #8

Help blacklisted

A "Help Blacklisted" role for users who repeatedly break #help-rules, basically as the name suggests they will be blacklisted from all the coding related channels. @FalseDev

Avoid violence upon "no to spoonfeeding".

Current Scenario

It's been around a month I became a helper and I have been observing that most of the people ask for code in the help channels. Upon disagreement by other members, they give invalid examples referring to #code.

Trying to make Discord Bot without prior knowledge of Python or any other language

Usually people are observed to directly jump to making Discord Bots without any prior coding experience and then ask for help about indent and syntax errors. Even when they are asked to learn that language first, they don't stop and keep on arguing, this needs to be stopped.

My suggestions

  • An error detector which automatically DMs people with links containing Python Docs and Tutorials (yeah will be kinda annoying).
  • Automatic gist creation when message content exceeds 2000 words or above (reproducible using TechStruck).
  • Allow helpers to warn people violating #help-rules.

I hope this issue will be beneficial for all the helpers

Some changes to the helper application

The helper application is decent in its current form, but the practical questions asked do not encapsulate all the fields required for using discord.py/js; which is what the majority of people come to this server for.

Adding a few questions related to asynchronous programming, multithreading and knowledge of databases would be a good change to the application.

Would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this, especially the helper team.

Remove #code

Looks like it serves no other purpose than spoonfeeding the people.

Suggestions

Moving suggestions to Github

We could possibly move suggestions to this very github repo and rename this repo to TCA

This way everyone can comment their views on everything and staff also have a better time sorting through and applying good ones

Community bin

Current state

As of now the community bin channel is getting filled with trash and conversations

People are posting legitimately bad code!

A recent example is a command which converts binary to text using an API!

Discuss below on how we can fix this and prevent bad practices and bad code from reaching everyonw

Bot commands in general

I mean we have a rule that says no bot commands in general but they won't listen, maybe we should like disable all bot commands in general except for Yagpdb
