oneko's Introduction

oneko

Neko runs over the windows

Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • C standard library (e.g. glibc)
  • X11 client-side library (libX11)
  • X11 miscellaneous extensions library (libXext)

Building

Build system is not used because there is only one source file that includes all headers. The command below produces oneko executable on the majority of distributions.

clang -Wno-parentheses -std=c11 -pedantic -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE oneko.c -o oneko -lc -lm -lX11 -lXext

The same arguments will work with GCC compiler.

Usage

Read the docs.

Versioning

Patch levels are used for versions compatible with the original oneko. The project will switch to SemVer for versioning after the first feature-breaking change.

License

According to FSF Directory, the (Japanese) README file, as well as the LSM file originally distributed with oneko on sunsite both say that oneko is public domain software.

oneko's Issues

kitty not transparent

this git seems dead but for the low chance someone sees this i cant seem to get transparency working, is there any config or any source code i could change? idk anything about coding but it annoys me so i wanna try to fix it
maybe its a terminal issue not supporting transparency or just a compton issue but i have no idea

Build command missing path to Xlib

Build command fails on OpenBSD 6.5-release because it can't find X11/Xlib.h. One must specify the path to X11R6 as follows:

C_INCLUDE_PATH="/usr/X11R6/include" LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/X11R6/lib" clang -Wno-parentheses -std=c11 -pedantic -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE oneko.c -o oneko -lc -lm -lX11 -lXext

feature request: wayland support

Oneko currently only supports x11, as wayland didn't exist when it was first coded, however as many Linux systems move to prefer wayland, oneko lags behind.

no delay option and user defined picture

Is it posible for you to add new picture - crosshair, and give an setup option to allow picture to follow mouse pointer without any delay and stay every time exactly in mouse cursor position? Or - better - option to use user defined picture (png or other format), for example:
oneko -nodelay -userpic path/mypic.png
oneko -nodelay -userpic path/mypic.xbm (xbm I can create using GIMP)
I can create picture of crosshair.

Doesn't work on MacOS Montery 12.2.1

Overview

When running any command (regardless of type given in any ReadMe file, blog, etc.), no executable is made anymore like it was in the older versions of Mac OSX. Nothing is produced except random (non-executable) files in the same tar-extracted directory, not in /usr/bin/, /opt/<dir>/, etc. so there is no longer any way to execute oneko from the terminal.

Commands attempted

clang -Wno-parentheses -std=c11 -pedantic -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE oneko.c -o oneko -lc -lm -lX11 -lXext
clang -Wno-parentheses -std=c11 -I/opt/X11/include -L/opt/X11/lib -pedantic -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE oneko.c -o oneko -lc -lm -lX11 -lXext
C_INCLUDE_PATH="/usr/X11R6/include" LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/X11R6/lib" clang -Wno-parentheses -I/opt/X11/include -std=c11 -pedantic -D_DEFAULT_SOURCE oneko.c -o oneko -lc -lm -lX11 -lXext

Details

Specifically with the -I[...] -L[...] options, I get the error:

oneko.c:745:5: error: implicit declaration of function 'pause' is invalid in C99 [-Werror,-Wimplicit-function-declaration]
    pause();
    ^
oneko.c:812:8: warning: extra tokens at end of #endif directive [-Wextra-tokens]
#endif SHAPE

Feature Request: increase image size

As display resolutions are much higher these days, neko is quite small on FullHD displays. Is it possible to increase the size of the displayed neko? I am not a programmer so I increased the sizes of the bitmaps and bitmasks from 32x32 to 64x64 with GIMP and recompiled the code. Nevertheless it only lead to display glitches. Next I tried to change some values in the code:

AnimalDefaultsData AnimalDefaultsDataTable[] = { { "neko", 13, 6, 32, 32, 125000L, 0, 0, mouse_cursor_bits,mouse_cursor_mask_bits, mouse_cursor_width,mouse_cursor_height, mouse_cursor_x_hot,mouse_cursor_y_hot },

I changed the 32, 32 to 64,64 but this had not effect on the size of neko.

Avoid Scroll actions

When accidentally using the scroll (middle) wheel of the mouse on top of oneko, the desktop virtual environment changes.

Is it possible to deactivate any interactions from the mouse wheel and the oneko ?

Feature request

Can we make a direction for the tofocus... since , most of my windows are full screen. I can't see oneko.

It would be great if it can go to the bottom, right corner (on top of window):
