tinypico-hardware's Issues

Add ov2460 camera

Thanks a lot for you tiny board!
It's what I need. How do you think, is it hard to add ov2460 2MP camera module to the board? ESP32-CAM board is rather popular, but isn't power safety and big. I can help, if possible.

Which contact is GPIO13?

GPIO13 is used to toggle on/off the DotStar LED, but I need to use it for something else (it is HSPI MOSI and I have a screen that I want to run at a higher refresh rate). Where is the contact on the board so that I can desolder whatever is there and solder on something of my own?

C23 is a duplicate of C1?

Hi Seon,

I believe this was accidental but if you did it on purpose then what's the purpose?
Is the capacitance/inductance of the wire between the reset button and the reset pin so high that it needs two capacitors?

Low-Battery / Over discharge

What stops over discharge of the battery?

I can't see anything in the schematic that would handle this.

image
The ESP can operate down to 2.2V. With the LDO drop of 190mV that would pull the battery down to 2.3/2.4V before it would get flaky. A bit low for a li-ion battery.

Have I missed something?

Unable to flash tiny pico nano

Is there anything to consider when flashing a self-designed board with a tiny pico nano?
I am using a micro usb B as port and UART is working fine (since I am able to see the tiny pico nano as listed device) but I got always the error
"esp32 invalid head of packet"
I know thats for esp32 a well-known issue but all suggested solutions do not working (especially because they are only for pre-builded boards).

Eagle and Gerbers do not match

I've noticed some differences between the included gerber files and the Eagle project files.

For instance, the PSRAM' silkscreen is labeled "LY68L6400SLIT" in Eagle but simply "PSRAM" in the included gerbers.
Could you update the Eagle project so we are sure we're not missing any other more important change?

Thanks!

Comment GPS / GNSS / GSM / GPRS shield

Great product and I can see a lot of uses for ESP32 in this size module. I am not a hardware designer, if I were I would do this myself. Are there are plans by anyone to make a GSM/GPRS/GPS/GNSS shiled of same form? I feel this would make the TinyPico more usable for a wider audience, Especially in field of IOT, tracking etc.

Thank you

How are the values of L1, C4 and C5 decided?

Hi, I am wondering how you decided to use the values of L1 (7.5 nH), C4 (1.5 pF) and C5 (0.75 pF) for use with the antenna? The datasheet for the ESP32-Pico-D4, these values are different. Which value of these three would the performance be most sensitive to?

Sensing when USB power is present on V1 boards

I have some TinyPico V1 but an application where they will mostly be getting power via USB but I would like to be able to sense when USB power goes away and the battery takes over.

In comparing the V1 P3 and V2 C2 schematics, it looks like the V1 boards can't do that. True? Or am I misreading the purpose of GPIO9? Is there a workaround?

I'm happy to order some V2 if need be. I just didn't want to do it unnecessarily.

Where can I download a 3D Model?

We would need the 3D Model of the TinyPico for building a Case and visualizing the board on it.

Could you add the model to the git repo (in the ideal case as STEP file)? Or is it available somewhere else?

Tinypico-CAN

Hello, does this board have a CAN controller #

TinyPICO.sch and TinyPICO.brd

I can not open these two files with Engle. The error message I received is

line 9, column 122: This is not an EAGLE file.

I appreciate if someone can help me solve this issue.

Thanks,

Will

tinypico board layout

I would like change out the prog resistor R3 against another (to change the battery current properly for my LiPo). Since I have only the schematic (and real board) it is hard to figure out which one is the correct one. I could only guess, which is quite unsafe.
Could you push an layout file of tiny pico (nano) as well?
Thanks.

Other I2C pin than IO21 and IO22

It is possible to use other pin than IO21 and IO22 for I2C? They are marked as I2C pins on the tinpy pico pinout which makes me quite unsure.

PCB Dimensions for footprint and Shield Ground

Hello...
I am making a Kicad footprint for the TinyPICO P3 Board... I am using the tinypico/tinypico-hardware/TinyPICO Release P3/Eagle/TinyPICO.brd to make the measurements using the built-in Kicad measuring tool... With the board placed such that the long-side is in the y-direction and the short side in the x direction, the distance between the each pad in the y-direction is the standard 2.54 mm or .1 in... However, in the X direction I am measuring 15.2654 mm or 0.601 in between the pads (center-to-center)... Is this correct??? As for the size of the board (less critical), I am measuring the y-direction as 31.852 mm or 1.254 in. and 17.780 mm or 0.7 in. Are these measurements in the ball-park???

I have included some jpg photos to show the orientation of the footprint...

One last thing... From the schematic, I saw that you tied the shield of the USB-C connector to the power/signal ground... I am incorporating your board onto another board which implements a separate trace for Earth-Ground which the usb-c cable shield routes to an Earth connection at the power supply... The design is using TVS diodes to transfer any ESD picked up by the sensors of the system to that Earth-Ground path... However, with Shield tied to the signal/power ground, it seems to me that any ESD would be routed to that ground as well... What is your opinion on this issue? Thanks for your timely response on the issues that I have outlined in this writeup...

No schematic for the tinypico nano

I am trying to design a board in kicad using the tiny pico nano. I have installed the kicad footprint but, where is the schematic. I can make one from scratch using the pdf if I need to. Please let me know if you would like and I will attach a copy unless you have one I can use.

External 5V Power supply and USB 5V at the same time?

I have a setup where the 5V Pin is connected to an external power supply.

My question:
Is it safe to plug in the USB Cable with its own 5V Power Supply while there's still 5V coming through the 5V Pin?

Use Case is that I need to re-flash it while the external power supply is on, or I want to open the monitoring through USB.

Thanks!

Req: Missing part libraries

Just found and picked up my first TinyPICO ... very impressive form factor.

I went ahead and loaded the board & schematics in Fusion 360 (which now has the functionality of Eagle built-in). The problem is, many of the parts used reference libraries that are not public.

Could you please do one of the following two things?

  1. make the following libraries, which contain parts used by the TinyPICO, available in the git repo?
  • cmonr_standardparts
  • CP2104
  • microbuilder
  • NCP170AMX300TCG
  • Philbywhizz
  • supply1
  • UnexpectedMaker
  1. Alternatively, can you put all the parts used for this board into a single library, and make it a "managed" library in Eagle? This would allow it to be downloaded automatically by Eagle / Fusion360 users, including getting updates if anything changes.

Having the libraries for the parts is the first step to enabling full 3D models in Fusion360. Having the 3D model makes it really easy for makers to create custom enclosures, using any output supported by Fusion360 (e.g., 3D-printing, laser-cut acrylic, CNC, etc.). The 3D model it makes is already really good, but it can't show the usb connector, and the boxes are wrong-sized for other parts. Still, it's already really close!

The only remaining step then would be to ensure the parts have the 3D models ... which is itself a zero-cost service (for end users). Mouser, for example, has some relationship with LibraryLoader, and they turnaround simple new requests (e.g., common chip packages) in ~48 hours.

Thanks!

Honored but not sure if it was an accident.

I hopped on today to download the kicad symbol. I haven't tried it yet however, when going to download the files I noticed I had permission to edit the repo. I figured I would bring it to your attention as I wasn't sure if you did so on accident. I'm still waiting on my recent order to arrive but, I'm honored you'd trust me with permissions to your repo.
