I open this issue just to make sure we look at it and upgrade if we decide it is needed

1. Need a link to the latest announcement to be visible before anything else. maybe link to http://tiptoppress.com/category/category-posts-widget/ ?
2. the "category recent posts" tag is useless, no one probably searches for it, better to replace it with "recent posts"
3. link to the full documentation of the plugin at http://tiptoppress.com/category-posts-widget/documentation/

It is very annoying that they close and you need to open them again

Delete this 'if's', e.g. in

• function show_thumb().
  It is done central, on time in category_posts_should_enqueue().

I am using this plugin and this is a great plugin.But the Problem is when i click the Category title or the Post title it leads to the 404 not found page.

I tried this with custom permalink but it doen't work.I tried this with default permalink then it work.But i want seo friendly permalink

If jetpack is installed most likely its stats module is active. Let the user select sorting by post popularity, asc and desc order

In addition to not showing posts without thumbnail, lets let the user select a default thumb. Nothing fancy, just select one from the media library

Hi there, you state required version 2.8 on https://wordpress.org/plugins/category-posts/ yet 2.9 is not compatible, because of missing wp_reset_postdata function. Only exists since 3.0.0, see https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_reset_postdata

Upgraded WP to 4.5.2 then upgraded category-posts-widget to 4.1.9 and got this:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/18/3900718/html/wp-content/plugins/category-posts/cat-posts.php on line 58

lets say a refresh every minute to show more posts etc (like ads in FB). Do it with AJAX.

We can consider it as feature request to our plugin.

since we have decided to abandon php 5.2 we should take advantage of the php 5.3 features.. name spacing can make function names shorter and therefor more readable.

After initializing the widget, espacially after add in the customizer there were PHP errors.

Lets split it up to functions that handle each "panel". Right now it is just unreadable

in addition to setting width and height for the thumb, show a dropdown list of sizes defined at the size, with an option to "use something else".

We should not sent people to learn PHP date formats :) Some PHP programmers (me) get confused by all the options.

We should at least provide better UX - maybe have two specific options for full site date and time, and shorter one that shows date only. Then a free format.

Maybe also let people select months as numbers. if the default format is month name.

Copy the pattern used in the recent posts widget. Add the html generated by the widget to the cache and delete it when new posts are being published or widget is updated

Featured image might or might not be arround, checking if the theme has featured images enabled in addition is probably an edge case not worth bloating the code with

In general, changing the default behavior of a mature plugin is a bad idea. It reduces trust of the plugin update system when it impacts the current installation in unpredictable ways.

It would be totally acceptable to enable this option on a new installation.

Existing:
The font-size is different from that of other widgets or Theme elements?
Please use the option: "Disable widget CSS".

Adapt:
If you use more then one instance on your site, you have to unchecked this option on all used widgets.

We can do a long list of options in attributes, but it is not very easy to use. Maybe hook into the customizer so the user adds the shortcode in the text and configure it in the customizer?

First of all - I love your WP plugin!

But I just found a problem and I'm afraid it is a bug:

I use the plugin to show the last 3 posts in my sidebar (which works just fine) and when the first two posts are chosen the li element gets the class .cat-post-current, but the third (.last-child) doesn't.

I enclose 3 screenshots:

cat-post-current.png -> the code when the first link is chosen
cat-post-current-too.png -> code when the second is
cat-post-not-so-current.png -> the code when the last link is chosen

use vendor prefixes:

-webkit-filter: blur(5px); /* Chrome, Safari, Opera */
filter: blur(5px);

Would it be possible to add a shortcode, so we can use the plugin on a page? That would be great.

Not sure if it makes sense but especially with small thumbnails no one is going to hover exactly on the thumbnail so the effect is wasted. Effect should be when hovering any part of the item.

Hey so I believe to customize the plug-in, I would go to Appearances>Customize>Widgets and I'd be able to configure it. However, when I do that, it's blank and this shows up:

I don't know if this is related, but a while ago, I had a separate issue where it said that I didn't have widgets enabled or something like that.

I hope this is the right place.
An unmentioned feature of this plug-in is that the archive menu shows posts from the same category as the one selected in the set up.

I used this on a single site installation, and found this really useful considering that there could be many post over time.
Unfortunately on multisite it only works on the main site on the second site I get page not found and a search box.
Stranger still if I click on the search button without entering anything in the text field I get posts from all the categories...

Would it be possible to have the archive menu working like this as a feature of the plug-in, and of course, that it worked on multisite installations.

Hi, something happened a few days back, and I have no idea what. I have made no changes to the setup. The only changes made are updates to WordPress itself and any plugin updates.

I run WordPress 4.3, and version 4.1.1 of the Category Posts Widget.

The widgets now displayed without titles can be seen in the secondary sidebar (on the left side of the screen) here: http://www.whiskysaga.com/.

Any idea what has happened?

We use the word excerpt, but we really mean automatically generated excerpt, and setting like excerpt length do not apply to manually added excerpts

Category Posts is a great plugin, but it could be greater if there was an option for "except this category". If the except option is enabled then the widget shows all posts except the chosen category.

I've applied this customisation to the copy of the plugin I use (originally 3.3 and now 4) and it works fine.

My post categories consist of "news" and a bunch of blog categories. With this change I can have a list of recent "news" items and a list of recent "blog" entries - where blog entries are everything except news.

For example, for some people maybe the date should be before the excerpt.

We can add some easy options in a dropdown and also let the user use a sprintf style format.

Lets help the users that actually try to be organized (there are probably some like that ;) ) be able to get a proper phpdoc of what is on their site
