Other Boards with EQ

Hi,

Since you suggested the BM20, i looked at other Microchip boards.

Check out this Microchip App Note, explaining Microchip EQ software
https://www.microchip.com/wwwAppNotes/AppNotes.aspx?appnote=en605011

They list BM62, BM64, IS2062, IS2064, and IS2066. I wonder if that means those are the only Microchip devices that have EQ?

Check out page 6 of this Microchip brochure. It lists all their audio-capable bluetooth chips.

For now, i want to find modules, not raw chips. Mouser lists several Microchip boards around $10. Not too bad.

To filter just audio boards, unsure if i should filter by Protocol or Data Rate?

No communication

I'm trying to communicate with the Arduino through UART using your library.
I have a problem because I don't have any response from BM20.
Is it enough to connect Arduino's RX/TX to BM20's HCI_RXD/HCI_TXD? Or should I connect something else (eg. turn on command mode)? Can you give me any advice with that?

Voice Prompt Question

Not a specific issue/question about your library, but about the IS2083 chip in general. The manual describes the "Voice Prompt" command which can be used to send the chip arbitrary audio data which it then plays, however I've never been able to get this to work. Have you ever tried this, and have you had any success?

Cannot find IS2020_002 Tools anywhere

Hi tomaskovacik,
I have an IS2020 module with chip version 002. But when I try to modify EEPROM settings, I noticed that tools for is2020_002 are no longer available on microchip website, and I cannot find it anywhere else.
So I wonder if you still have the tools, and if so, could you please send a copy to me?

BM23 stuttering audio issue

Hello,

I am having an issue with the BM23 Bluetooth module (IS2023). I saw that you have laid out a breakout board for the BM23, so I am guessing you have some experience with it.

The Issue:
Audio from the BM23 pauses roughly every 2 seconds for about 300ms. I know the source of the issue is the BM23 and not some other part of the circuit (such as the amplifier). Because this pause occurs on the DT0 line from the BM23 to the amplifier. This was measured on an oscilloscope.

What I Have Tried:
I have successfully written to the BM23 using the UI, DSP, MPET and EEPROM tools. I have changed all of the configuration settings that I thought may have some impact on this issue (and some that I thought wouldn’t but tried anyway) in an attempt to solve this issue. I have also configured the circuit similar to the reference circuit (provided in the BM23 datasheet), thinking that some noise on one of the pins maybe causing this issue (I will provide a schematic of my test circuit).

I have tried several A2DP sources (several phones and a tablet), with no change in the issue.

I tried a second BM23 chip, thinking it could have been a soldering, overheating or ESD issue. But the second chip performs the same as the first.

I can provide screen shots of my configuration settings for both the UI and DSP tools, if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Below is a schematic of my current test circuit using the BM23.

Meta support

Hi Tomas,

Just wanted to let you know I got the meta-info working on my project, which originated quite strongly from your library, so only fair to let you know i guess. Should you like to backport some of my stuff in your library, regarding meta-data, feel free.

side note:

  • I had issues with android (9, stock rom sony), so left that, and used my iPhone (which has much better BT stack as I've noticed in a other project). It still pretty rough, but works at least with the ipone.
  • inital version gets all meta-data in single event, and as MTU size is pretty big, my buffers are so aswell (2x250 uint8_t), not sure how an basic ArduinoUno is occupied RAM-wise, but could require some more optimizing. This add up quite fast, especilaly with classical syphonies and extensive artists, ...
