Good find!
The 'tap and hold' selection box around the card is a leftover from the boilerplate card code I used to start the compass-card.
I removed most of the stuff for that, however I was not able (yet) to find where the selection box came from.
This is on the wishlist as 'Cleanup unused boilerplate code'.
However, seeing that you'd like to use the 'tap and hold' functionality, I might as well label this an enhancement and stop searching for how to remove the selection box and just re-implement the removed functionality.
OT: Thanks for the love, sometimes just reading the documentation pays off. It's not mentioned in great detail however, the following line of example code preview: false, // Optional - defaults to false made me ask myself what would happen if I set that to true. And voila, one line of code, and a far better user experience for everyone.
