Good evening.
I liked your article about podman. I kind of understand it a bit better now ... I guess...
One thing I am still struggling with and maybe you have an idea and can help:
I want to access to a mounted device
on my host:
[null@fedora ~]$ ll /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw----. 1 root dialout 188, 0 16. Jul 23:16 /dev/ttyUSB0
and with unshare
[null@fedora ~]$ podman unshare ls -la /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw----. 1 nobody nobody 188, 0 16. Jul 23:16 /dev/ttyUSB0
in my container:
[null@fedora ~]$ podman run -it --rm --device=/dev/ttyUSB0 some/image:latest /bin/bash
root@78de0dbbb538:/# ls -la /dev/
-?????????? ? ? ? ? ? ttyUSB0
root@78de0dbbb538:/$ ls -la /dev/ttyUSB0
ls: cannot access '/dev/ttyUSB0': Permission denied
i test with the podman 3.2.2 and the "keep-groups" features but with no luck. podman unshare chown
the device is not possible.
the device is owned by root
with the group dailout
. my current user (1000) is a member of dialout
. So I have access to the USB device. In my understanding I need to add the container user to the group dialout
so it has access to the device as well.
Is there any way a rootless container can have access to an file/folder/mount owned by the host root?
Is there a more simple way to get my USB device working in my container.
In my specific use case its an esp32
thanks and greetings from germany
