Why no unhandled in scala example

New to typesafe/scala and the biggest question i had when running through this tutorial is why there is no case else that calls unhandled in the scala implementation of the Greeter actor.

class Greeter extends Actor {
  var greeting = ""

  def receive = {
    case WhoToGreet(who) => greeting = s"hello, $who"
    case Greet => sender ! Greeting(greeting) // Send the current greeting back to the sender
  }
}

Is the unhandled called implicitly in the receive method through scala conventions? Adding this info to the tutorial would be nice since it's explicitly called out as recommended in the tutorial and the calls are there on the java side

Scala Actor vs Java UntypedActor: why?

In the tutorial this brief mention is made:

You create an Actor in Java by defining a class that extends UntypedActor and implement the onReceive method (in Scala you have to extend Actor trait and implement the receive method)

as a n00b i was left wondering why that was, if it's a simple explanation adding it to the tutorial would be beneficial.
