UKWA Notebook Apps

This repository contains a set of Jupyter notebooks intended to be hosted as web applications via Voila.

They are for internal/staff use and depend on APIs that are not externally accessible.

Note that Voila does not automatically run-all-cells, but this can be forced by the notebook.

Development

To work on the notebooks, we can run Jupyter. Set up a virtual environment:

virtualenv -p python3 venv
source venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt

Then run Jupyter.

Alternatively, the notebooks can be developed within a general Jupyter deployment, like the BL Staff JupyterHub.

Change units of storage report to GB/TB/etc.

Currently, the storage report says TB but is using factors of 1024 so is actually reporting TiB.

This is not what users want, so the report needs changing to use factors of 1000 and so report TB.

Move HDFS Storage Report from Hugo to a Dashboard Notebook

The current intranet service hosts our HDFS Report that UKWA and DPT use to track our holdings. This is a separate stack using Hugo, and does not track across both Hadoop clusters. This would work better as a Jupyter notebook, hosted via Voila as part of the W3ACT stack (where external collaborators could also see it).

Create a notebook to match the current page, but based on querying TrackDB.
Integrate that notebook into this repo, and deploy via ukwa-services/ingest/w3act.
Update the Intranet page to forward users to the new location.
